Mental health care is a business, not a help

Post by Savage »

I know. I acted out to get help. (I was at the end of my rope, so to speak). I was placed in a facility for two weeks. At no time was I given the opportunity to speak to a mental health professional. I spent my time there bored off my butt, sitting in on "group" meetings which consisted of some random person talking to us and mostly relating everything to something that they did back in the day. Oh yeah, and sometimes, we were allowed blunt crayons and encouraged to draw pictures. Several times, I listened to an inmate start to spill his or her guts about the horrors of their life, only to be interrupted by the lecturer-- "Oh! That reminds me of when I... Excuse me? Isn't this supposed to be about helping people deal with their mental health problems?

I spent most of my time in my rack, reading. Going back to the problems in my real life was easy after incarceration.

don't even get me started about ADA non compliance.

And those seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.

I did not dance. I had to beg for a pencil (dull) to write in my notebook that Grumpy was allowed to drop off. I was quizzed at one point, by a staff nurse about what I was writing. They did go through my personal bag 'o stuff, so they must have already known that I mostly added to my Death canon. I told one massively obese male nurse about my Death stories. I believe that he was afraid that I was a plant (reporter) there to expose their money-making scheme. Oh please. Like I could be assed
