Yep. I said it.

Nothing against Newman, but, Pam Grier. Pam Grier.

Quality-wise, CHL is up there, for me. But then you've got the 2-hrs.-of-sweaty-dudes argument. CHL just ain't all that easy to watch, in a way. But it is a great movie, no doubt. Paul Newman is easily the greatest pretty-boy actor of them all.

Indubitably CHL is one of the great films of all time, but if you want to talk about the great acting jobs of all time... how about Pacino in Scent of a Woman? Not to mention he has some great booze lines too:

"Schlitz. No Schlitz? Blatz. No Blatz? Improvise."

"Tell him I want it wall to wall with John Daniels.
Don't you mean TJD?
He may be Jack to you son, but when you've known him as long as I have..."

And, of course, my favorite Pacino speech ever, not to mention the best description of the fairer sex that I've ever heard--

Can I pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?
A little early isn't it, Woody?
For a beer?
No, for stupid questions...

This movie has stood the test of time and it still remains one kick-ass flick. Paul Newman was not only a great actor, but an awesome public steward (profits from Newman's Own brand go to charity, check out the Hole in the Wall Gang camp that he and his wife founded). I hope that another Paul Newman comes along, really soon.

On a side note, if you liked CHL then check out Robert Redford in 'The Last Castle'. There are plot similarities and good acting.
