A few bloopers, for one Chick Donohue serve in the USMC, in Japan and the PI, and the anti war protesters of the era were not pro-troops, but all in all a good film

Yes, but before he was a merchant mariner, he served in the military, the USMC from '58-'64, as a merchant mariner he was a member of the National Maritime Union (NMU) and it was in '67 that he made his famous beer run, later in his life he purchased the bar in the film (Doc Fiddlers) and ran it for several years
