I always thought it was too "bombastic" and not melodic enough

I like classical music though Wagner isn't one of my favorites. However Bartok's string quartets are a favorite. Back when I had to go all the way downtown to catch a bus to work "Die Walkure" would come on the classical radio station it would somehow seem fitting.
