SoCal, as you probably remember, was awash in garage surf bands. I see it similar to Liverpool, England during the British Invasion of the '60's.
Found myself in the Matrix and took the red pill. Now I want the blue pill and my bottle and leave me alone.

We hear Little Steven's great show on WKIT here in Bangor, Maine. Yup, that list is excellent. Thanks Booze Hound, nicely done.
Also, that radio station is owned by a certain horror writer from our area, and he drives a shitty blue pick-up truck in the summer when he's here, because he don't put on airs.
Just a regular joe.
Of course, he dried out, but don't hold that against him.
This radio station still has actual DJ's.

You made me think of SRV. He's with Jimi (his idol) now, since 1990.
Imagine if they were still both around.
Damn shame.

Re: Whatcha listening to?
Joe Jackson's live version of "Steppin' Out", I'll copy-paste my comments on this from my Whisky page and post it here.
Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out”, this song is perfect because it captures the excitement, awkwardness and movement of a first date in New York City and the energy therein. I don’t care where you’re from, but this song - is a night in New York City, no place else. I know the excitement of it all takes place no matter where you are - but in this one instant - it’s NYC, there are very few songs so tied to a place and moment, this is one of them.
In the original studio version, you have the fast bass line, the whimsical chimes and perfect percussion that brings you right into that moment where you finish your drinks and rush out into the night, to hail a cab along some avenue among the light show that is this city, hand in hand and a yellow cab to points unknown. The innocence, the speed and the mystery, that’s the original “Steppin’ Out”. In this version posted, Joe Jackson does something different. It’s a complete reversal. The speed, the awkwardness, the rush - it’s all gone. The feeling of rushing into the night with the last taste of Whiskey on your breath and her soft hand in yours is gone. This sounds bad on the surface, but no - what Jackson has created - because this is an entirely different song, is elegant, it’s confident, it’s history, while the rush of that first date is absent, this here, is class and elegance. It captures a different moment. A moment that can take place anywhere.
It’s a gentle walk after a Wine tasting, where “Steppin’ Out” is the first dance and erratic in it’s beauty, lost in the lights and jazz traffic of the city, this version is the symphony of a perfect pairing over time, it’s a long light rain, it’s the clink of a wedding ring against a Wine glass, it’s grown up, and simply can’t be done any better. There is no “first date” here, this - this is love. Perfect.

The album "Night and Day" is one of the very first that I bought back when I had my first CD player. I have listened to the studio version I don't know how many times before going out to meet my friends in Bordeaux and drink tons of beer. I was 17. How time flies.TheBigCasino wrote:Joe Jackson's live version of "Steppin' Out", I'll copy-paste my comments on this from my Whisky page and post it here.
