"Yancey's Getaway" (Riverside LP # 12-124/1957) -- by Jimmy Yancey (1894-1951)
This LP is comprised of unreleased 78rpm recordings (cut in @1939) from the old Solo Art label.
Jimmy Yancey was an early and very influential boogie-woogie/blues piano player, who had a day job mowing the lawn at the "old" Comiskey Park (now gone), where the Chicago Whitesox baseball club used to play. Most people don't know of him, but Jimmy Yancey was, along with "The Singing Brakeman", Jimmie Rogers, and the 1930's Mississippi blues legend, Robert Johnson, one of three "foundation members" who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame upon it's inception and before anyone else.

Re: Favourite Album
read a book "Pulphead" by John Jeremiah Smith, a compilation of magazine articles, which had a chapter on old blues music. i don't know if he has any more in-depth articles, but I found it a good read

Tough call.
Mellow; Grateful Dead- Working Man's Dead or American Beauty.
Wound up; Dropkick Murphies -Blackout or Dead Kennedys- Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Head banging wound up; Metallica -Master of Puppets or Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Christ I have to stop now. I hate questions like this.... they torture so.
Like XPN's top ten desert island songs list. I mean how the fuck are you supposed to pick 10 songs for what could be eternity? Personally since the amount was limited I picked 10 of my favorite songs of no less than 10 minutes. Stretch that shit out.

Re: Favourite Album
Today, my favorite album ever is Robert Cray Band's "I Was Warned." That song is the crown, and his guitar is the scepter in that song.
Yesterday, my favorite album ever was Bad Company, 10-6.

Re: Favourite Album
surf's up is good, but pet sounds... lovely. lately, I've been listening to Pavoratti and club 33. Picking a favorite would be like asking me to pick my favorite child. and do not get me started about all the big band, or Tijuana brass.
all of which are taking time away from my real job: finding the perfect soundtrack for this Halloween. this year's theme is so simple, which, oddly enough, makes finding the proper music difficult.

Re: Favourite Album
"Let Love In" or "Rain Dogs", but I mean, shit, "Velvet Underground and Nico" and some others deserve a mention. Someone mentioned Sonic Youth.
