Jameson whiskey and ginger ale

On my last trip to Northern Ireland, I spent an evening in the company of - amongst others - a lad from New York, who, fittingly, really liked his booze.

So we're drinking Guinness and whiskey. Come my next round, he asks for a (double) Jameson and ginger ale.

Is this common in the States? The bar staff didn't know it so well, nor did I. However, it tasted fine.

Anyone tried it?

I never mix fine Jameson with anything but ice. But, Jack and Ginger is big over here. Cheap whiskey with ginger ale is a good drink.

Would agree on your last point, there. Ginger ale seems a good mixer if you have a low-rank whiskey.

I gotta agree with the consensus of my fellow bastards. Don't mix Jameson with ginger ale. Your just molesting the subtle nuisances of the Irishification of the libation. However, ginger ale is a component in a Presbyterian and a Horse's Neck. In my opinion these two cocktails are in the same ranks of a Manhattan, a Martini, or a Old-Fashioned, but not as popular. The next time you pony up to the bar, keep the classic alive and order a Pres or Horse's. Cheers.

It used to be advertised to do that on the jamesons bottles I bought from tesco in england. I tried it, its ok but jamesons is easy to drink anyway so does not require a mixer. Its ok to mix jamesons, just leave me my black bush and tullamore dew straight up no ice.

I drink it all the time. In Ireland they give you just a couple of rocks with your Jameson and then they give you a bottle of Schwepp's Ginger on the side. The mixer costs almost as much as the damn drink so I just started taking my own mixer.

And for those of you who don't like mixing your Jameson with a mixer...I can understand if it was Jameson 18 or Talisker Black Bush or such, but I drink a shit ton of Jameson and if I never mixed it I would be throwing back my drinks so quick I couldn't last all night.

This is not to say that I don't enjoy whiskey on the rocks, but generally it's bourbon if I'm doing that. Also, I've gotten no less than 4 local girls to drink Jameson and ginger now. There's something to be said for getting pussy drinkers (pun intended) to begin drinking whiskey.

sorta reminds me about croatia. Gin tonics were rather short but the tonic water they mixed those in was by far superior to anything I've had here.

I've heard of and tried the Jack and Ginger, good mixed drink. But as others have said, Jameson is good on its own on ice, I think mixing Jameson ruins the taste, that warming feeling after a sip of straight Jameson is excellent.
