Very simple and very damn good on a cold day.
Make your black tea extra strong and add a shot or two of cheap whiskey. The heat and the bite make for a very satisfying drink. Throw in lemon or sugar for your taste preference.

Works also with rum, brandy and, well, can't think of a spirit (ie 37.5% ABV or above) that it doesn't work with.

Yeah, it's an easy mix. Vodka probably wouldn't work as well, but hell I'd still drink it!

Vodka mixes best with more vodka.

Perhaps, but I'm hard pressed to think of any mixed drink that calls for vodka that can't be made equally well, if not better, with a good white rum.

rum usually wins for me because you can get a bit of flavour without the medicinal alcohol flavour that vodka can haveBluto wrote:Wingman wrote:vodka mixes with everything.

some hilarious human made that song as a joke and claims to drink vodka and tea. I can understand why it makes no sense, but I think it's hilarious

Any specific teas to make this even more interesting? Such as Earl Grey and so on.JimLahey wrote:Very simple and very damn good on a cold day.

I'm drinking TJD but I got a bottle of Clan MacGregor which is pretty cheap and my goto whisky so I'll be trying this. What's the drink called?

Re: Black tea and whiskey
Technically, it would be a variant Hot Toddy. As for which teas work best, pretty much any would do. Certainly Earl Grey would provide a good mix but you could try Lemon Tea, Peppermint Tea (very good if you have a cold) or Japanese Cherry Tea. However, I wouldn't advise using Gunpowder Tea, that stuff has way too much caffeine. If you are going to mix with a cheapish whisk(e)y, I would strongly recommend that you try using Lapsang Souchong Tea, its smoky flavour would class up a cheap whisk(e)y very nicely.Truthseeker wrote:...What's the drink called?

Thank you Palinka. You're very friendly and useful. I'll check this again later.Palinka wrote:Technically, it would be a variant Hot Toddy. As for which teas work best, pretty much any would do. Indeed, Sir Jim Lahey.
Now, about this "tea" of which the others speak...
Hopefully, it hasn't been taxed or anything. I shall look for it.

If you aren't used to it, you should ease yourself into it gently; start with the "Long Island Iced" variety, at first.tdcwillies wrote:...about this "tea" of which the others speak...
