Alcoholic Lemonade

Post by Palinka (RIP) »

Recipe
8 unwaxed lemons, cut into chunks
300g caster sugar
500ml gin (London or Plymouth but not Bombay)
500ml vodka (if you choose to go all out)
Sprig of fresh mint

Put the lemons into a blender with 50g of the sugar and 250ml of water (or 125ml water and 125ml vodka). Whizz it until it's smooth.
Pour the resulting fluid through a sieve and put the pulp back into the blender. Add another 50g of sugar and 250mls of fluid (as before) and repeat the process. Repeat until all the sugar has been used.
Throw the pulp away put the liquid into a jug and stir in the gin. Put the sprig of mint into the jug. Refrigerate and enjoy.
It's a wonderful Summer drink.

I'm assuming you peel the lemons...or not?

No. That's why it is essential for them to be unwaxed.

Have just made this, it is chilling in the fridge as I type. It smells like Mediterranean summer, and I strongly suspect it will taste amazing!

Wow, you've got too try this. It is, as the kids continue to say, 'totes amazeballs'. Like a proper lemonade but, y'know, better. Because gin.

It is rather good and yet (the non-vodka version) tastes mild enough for a Church Picnic (but will get you nicely buzzed). The vodka version will see you to Blackout Island in no short order. If you do try the vodka version, add a little fresh, grated ginger with the sprig of mint.

I have thought about it a few times. Have made a lite-version, a tom collins with some lemon zest added. I do love lemons though, so I must try

the zest really does add a bit of "zip" to it. Tried a bit of it before remembering to strain. Fairly bad idea. Also added some peeled mandarin as I had i about

I like Lynchburg lemonade. That is good old fashioned lemonade, enlightened with bourbon or TJD. That dreadful crap they sell in the grocery stores is nothing more than cheap malt liquor with artificial flavoring.
