A Very Bloody Mary

Post by Palinka (RIP) »

To follow on from your inquiry (above), Here you go.

Serves one. Increase ingredients to suit participants.

Ingredients

500mls Vodka
500mls Tomato juice (not V8, Clamato or any other variety)
50mls water
10mls Beef blood
1 beef stock cube
Celery salt
Black pepper (freshly ground)
Tabasco sauce
Worcestershire sauce (or dark soy, if push comes to shove)
1 tblsp ginger (freshly grated)
1 tblsp vinegar (balsamic is best)
1 Cucumber (peeled and deseeded)
1 tblsp horseradish (freshly grated)
1 teaspoon English Mustard powder (optional)

Instructions

Chop the cucumber into cubes and place in a freezer or refrigerator icebox until frozen.
Mix the water (room temp) and blood (slowly to avoid clotting) then add Worcestershire sauce and vinegar and pour the liquid over the celery salt, stock cube, horseradish, ginger, black pepper and mustard powder, whilst constantly stirring.
Stir well and add slowly, while still stirring, to the tomato juice.
Add the vodka and frozen cucumber (the frozen cucumber obviates the need for ice cubes). Stir well.
Add garnish (sprigs of parsley, celery stalks and/or whatever else tickles your palate).
Drink.

Oh that does sound inviting. Uh-oh, me thinks another Bloody Mary kick is going to start. Mayhaps a pitcher of this for tonight's fishing trip as well.

Replace the beef stock cube with a vegetable or chicken stock cube, if you want to play an evil joke on a vegetarian or vegan (as the chef friend, who invented this cocktail, designed it to be used).

I will await your report with keen anticipation (plus a large vodka and maybe some wine).

I am given to believe that the Boss is partial to moose jerky; I hunted all over (whilst Stateside but could find none).

I've been told that only fresh moose blood is safe to imbibe, alcohol present or not. While I still have some ground meat left in the big chest freezer (all the steaks and roasts are lone gone now) I will have to wait until the capture of another free-range, vegan beast.

Sounds like a plan.

The BM is a whole science of it's own. There should be it's own catagory.

It's more chemistry than boozing, a cure intead of the social disease.

There may be no wrong way.

Rules defy the thing.

Another snowed-in Saturday with all day to experiment, so here's what I tried at 7 this morning: started with a pint glass, put in a pickle spear with a little jar juice, jigger of vodka, shot of Clamato, shot of Zing Zang, two tspn beef buillion, one of worcheshire, lemon juice, and Siriracha hot sauce. Filled with ice.

I think this might be the girl I settle down with and marry.

Until another little hottie comes along...

It seems to have a lot in common with The Bullshot; which I strongly urge everyone to try.

An Anchovy is a wonderful touch, as is the Bay thang.

I've talked about the candied bacon swizzle, but another trick is to take some cheddar cheese, bake it on some parchment or a no stick cookie pan until it's a flat bubbly mess, wait for it to cool slightly, then use a skewer or chop stick to roll it up into a straw.

Reminds me of my childhood 50 years ago, tromping home through the slush in my galoshes for lunch, where Mom always had a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese waiting! (sob)
