Post by Palinka (RIP) »

Pain, the Great Teacher!

Ingredients (for one, increase for extra guests/more for yourself)

10 cl Unicum (or Jagermeister and lots of bitters, if you can't get the real thing)
10 cl well Tequila
10 cl well Vodka
10 cl well Brandy
1 tblsp Tabasco
The juice of one lemon
The juice of 1/2 small sweet onion
10 cl Coconut milk
1 tspn Wasabi
50 cl Fiery (alcoholic) Ginger Beer (chilled)
Sea salt
Frozen Honey Melon balls.

Recipe

Pour everything bar the Ginger beer, sea salt and frozen melon balls into a blender and "whizz" it for a good 10 seconds.
Take a pint glass and "frost" it wit the sea salt.
Pour the liquid into the "frosted" pint glass add the frozen melon balls and top up with the chilled Ginger beer. Add greenery and other fripparies to taste. Drink through a pair of, wide diametered, straws as quickly as possible.

Repeat.

Find out the next day how it got its name.

I can't even imagine what this will taste like. I'll let you know once I've been resuscitated.

I did make this (minus the tequila, with gin that I found in a hipflask I thought I'd lost as a replacement)

The most recent thing I had done was lose at pool to a hustler after 15 pints

everything started to make sense

My local sells shot bottles of all, but the coconut milk is something I forget to buy at the supermarket called Hannafords. Used to be called "Doug's" but that was a few decades ago. I digress.

I got some gang dang or what have you from the thai basil in Old OTwn, Maine, and saved some of the red curry cocnut milk from that.

I didn't have any frozen melon balls, but I figured that maine blueberries might do.

Well, I tell you, mistah DR. P. that was a helluva drink!

I used the habanero tabasco. That makes it firey as hell.

It was the gift that kept on giving.

In the morning, it was a ring of fire, below

Thanks bud

As always, adjust according to taste.

As I said to Dear Lady S., all recipes may be adjusted according to taste. If you don't care for tabasco, don't use it. I have, on occassion, used Angostura bitters instead and, although it does alter the outcome, in terms of flavour, it still produced an entertaining cocktail.
Modern Drunkardism is all about experimentation. Feel free to play around with any cocktail recipe and see what happens; and be sure to report your findings back to the rest of us, please.
Now go to and, above all, have fun.
Cheers.
