these don't work very well. Trouble is, the collection bowl also ends up heated. If the top were sealed the vapour pressure would become dangerous. Because it is therefore left as a loose fit a lot of alcohol vapour escapes. It works to an extent, but isn't a very economical or effective method of distillation. If you want to concentrate alcohol cheaply, this thread outlines ice distillation somewhere in it, a safer and simpler method
