New to Me Gin Recipes.

Post by Patchez »

I'd posted in the AoGH about stepping out of your wheel house. I was going to try Gin. Well it is turning into more of an exploration of Gin. I'm really digging it. I've only tried the one brand, Broker's London Dry, so far but I plan of trying more as funds allow. That being said I will update this thread and the other with my findings.

Gin-- Broker's London Dry

Isle of Skye
Sweet Aperitif

These were listed as ounces but since they were all equal amounts we'll go with parts.

1 part Gin
1 part Drambuie
1 part lemon juice

Shake with ice.
Strain into cocktail glass.

This was a pleasant little number. The Drambuie complimented the Gin's botanicals nicely and set a counterpoint to the sour of the lemon.

This is the only one I've tried yet. But upcoming reviews are; the Gimlet, Quebec, and Trinity.

The Gimlet

2 parts Gin
1 part Rose's lime juice cordial

Mix with plenty of ice and strain into cocktail glass.
Add marachino cherry and squeeze lime and lemon peel over the glass then add to drink.

Quebec

1 part gin
1 part Canadian whiskey
1 part lemon juice
1 dash Angostura bitters

Shake with ice and strain into glass.

Trinity

1 part gin
1 part sweet red vermouth
1 part dry vermouth

Mix in mixing glass with ice. Strain into cocktail glass.
Now you're ready for some anti-dry-otics!-BeerMakesMeSmarter

Try this:
3 parts gin
1-2 parts Campari (according to your tastes)
4 parts grapefruit juice
A dash of Angostura Bitters can be added to impress

No idea what it's called but it got me through most of my early twenties and I still fall back on it for an easy nostalgia drink.

So I have half part gin, quarter tonic and quarter sprite. Is there a name for that? It`s good and fits the summer like temperatures we are enjoying here right now

Yep. "Not enough booze and too many mixers".

You are welcome to choose a local name, though.

Thing is, after too much of gin tonics I didn`t like they taste of tonic anymore. Bur said gin sprite is nice. Naked gin is an option though, I know. Excuses, excuses...

Lets call it the "Gin tonic excuse"

I've grown fond of Bombay 1761 (aint graduated to the blue one yet, but savroing anticiaption) with some quinine selzter and a bit of lemon. I think I may acgualy actually be starting to enjoy this more thn my nightly beer with rum

But rum needs to have a place of its own. Rum and gin don't do well together at their base level, I have found. You have to date either for the night, but not t]let them meet, or they will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, together.

Wait.

Ive said too much.

I liove you beer.

and you too rum

(shhh.. and you too, gina and quinine with lemon)

Amen

That sir is why we break out of our everyday rut and try new things. Eventually we may have a "date" for whatever mood we happen to be in. It will be glorious!!

Do check out the post that I made, in The Pub forum, regarding this subject.

I tried the Trinity today. Damn fine little number. Tangy with a nice lingering of the gin on the tongue. I will have this one again.
