Things Fall Apart Drink Series: Bottom of the Barrel cocktails

Post by Rye and Coke »

Edit: I have no idea what I was talking about down there. So this thread is just about making drinks from the bullshit you have left after a week of boozing and your stores running dry.

[drunkrambling]This series will cover the creation of drinks that are specifically and expressly designed to celebrate the depression and cynicism that comes with the understanding that we are all in the bar of a sinking ship, listening the band play its last, while the world is pitching vertical for one last elevator ride down into the deep and all we can think is, "they don't really need all these bottles of scotch now, do they?"[/drunkrambling]

1 part vodka
1/2 tequila
1 part lemonade
fill with pomegranate blueberry juice

I call it the "What the Fuck", cause I'm drinking it right now thinking ... "what the fuck..."

goddamnit, pressed RESPOND when I meant EDIT, oh well...

This was meant to be a thread of drink recipes when you have absolutely nothing left in the house, except one or two (if that many) alcohols. Now I have to think of another to fill this unwanted post.

I'll be back

I volunteer to be the Senior Taster of the blend(s). My resume speaks for itself.

I knew there was something I meant to do this weekend.

Edit: made a 50/50 blend of black label Evan Williams and Old Forester. Reminds me of Evan's white label.

Hmmm... Kentucky Deluxe with a dash of Laphroig for bitters, and some Popov plastic jug voddie with four ketchup packets for color/garnish (unopened) and half a tin of mustard sardines form the night before. Like a Bloody Mary, but probably not.

OK, you first in this?

I say no to sardines. But I liked the bit about Laphroaig.

Shit, I'm almost out of WT101. Luckily, there is some leftover KD.

Aw hell, I'll drink it anywya. Never refuse a drink.

Why have I never thought of this. The Scotch do it all the time: Whiskey blends...

All this time wasted!

Drunkard Note: The two posts before this were accidental drunken reposts, please dismiss or remove, depending on your abilities.

Autumn Sunrise
2 parts vodka
1 part Cranberry Apple Juice
float fresh Apple Juice

start with ice, vodka and Cran-Apple Juice. You can stir, I guess. Just get them good and marinated together. Then float a bit of fresh apple juice on top. If I remember correctly there was a nice little visual separation between the red base and light brown apple float.

Lot of Autumn flavors and ingredients. Decent eye-opener drink.

^ ^ ^ That sounds delectable. I think I dabbled with all of the Ocean Spray varietahs at some point. Couldn't really go wrong with the fusion flavors. The Cranberry Pomegranate was pretty tasty. And I felt like a healthy drunk with all the added antioxidants. Never had the aforementioned blueberry pomegranate but would give it a try.

We'll keep 'em. It shows your drunkard persistence at getting that post out there. And I like how you quoted yourself and didn't reply. :D

I forgot about this and decided to give it another go.

I tried different combinations of rye(Dickel) and bourbon(Old Forester). First I did a 50/50 mix of the two, had a very odd flavor I couldn't quite place. Nothing great but not half bad by any stretch of the imagination. Next up I did bourbon with a splash of rye. This was a vast improvement but I could just be saying that because bourbon is my drink of choice. Lastly I had a drink of mostly rye with a splash of bourbon. Not quite as odd as the 50/50 mix but tasty none the less. Like a well spiced bourbon.

Alright,

start with:

2-3 oz of Rye whiskey in a highball glass with ice
add 3 drops of Orange bitters
1/2 oz. of simple syrup
fill with soda water and stir

I call it the "Rye Top Fade"

This is worrying how refreshing it is.
