Random 49er Update

I just want to announce how happy I am to hear GM Scott McCloughan (sp?) is no longer with the 49ers. That is all.

With Warner out of the picture, you guys better win the division. It'll be nice to see all these phony Cardinals fans revert back to being phony Cowboy fans.

That being said, I hope we win the division too! I have a problem with Alex Smith still being the quarterback. We need to cut or trade him. I don't want him. He's part of the Nolan regime that needs to disappear.

As much as I like David Carr (we went to the same school) I'm not convinced he's any better than Alex Smith in the NFL. Smith is pretty mobile, which is necessary behind an offensive line like the Niners'. Everyone's seen how bad Carr plays behind a weak O-line. I don't understand why they picked up Carr in the first place. I guess they wanted to own both of the biggest #1 draft busts of the decade. Once they decided they weren't going to re-sign Shaun Hill after next year then they should have taken advantage of having two first-round draft picks to fill the position this year. All my friends are convinced that Nate Davis ("that retarded one") is the savior of the franchise but that's just because the only thing they've seen from him are a couple good showings in the pre-season.

In a perfect world the 49ers would have drafted Aaron Rodgers instead of Alex Smith and they would have offered the job to Pete Carroll instead of Singletary. They both grew up in the Bay as 49ers fans so I'm sure they would have appreciated it. And Mike Martz would still be our OC.

I don't understand the Carr trade either. We need to start fresh with quarterbacks instead of filtering through the shitty "talent" that we have been. It's ridiculous at this point.

The bright side of signing Carr was that he (accidently?) revealed that Alex Smith wanted to play at Fresno State. Turns out it's true and the school ended up cutting his scholarship. Without Urban Meyer, Smith probably wouldn't have been the #1 pick though. Then again, none of us here expected Carr to be the #1 pick back then either.

Us Lions fans are quite happy with having Shaun Hill coming in to compete for the #2 QB spot, TYVM!

Hill's stats weren't pretty but he did win games. He left with a 7-3 record in games he started.

Hill came to Detroit and wowed everybody (granted, not hard to do there) with a positive and definite "I know why I was signed; to back-up Matt Stafford" attitude.

I go it large.

I'm going to predict that Stafford lasts less than half the season before Hill replaces him as the starter. If Stafford throws anywhere near as many interceptions next season as he did last, then at some point they're going to realize they've got a guy on the bench who threw a total of two picks last year.

First McCloughan is out and now Larry Ellison will finally get to buy the Warriors? In the Bay Area the fog is splitting and a ray of sun is shining down on our sparkly new franchises. All my wishes are coming true. If Bochy gets fired as the Giants' skipper this same week then I won't know what to do with myself.

Pretty sure the Niners are planning on having Alex Smith come into the season as their starter with Carr as the backup.. If Smith screws up and Carr becomes the starter, look for a heavy dosage of Gore and Coffee running the ball..

The draft might tip their hand to their approach to 2010 with two 1st round picks..

At this point I think I'm desperate enough to get rid of all four of them for a quarterback like McNabb. You can't win championships in this league without a competent QB.

McNabb to Crabtree could be lethal as all hell.
