My parents' satellite TV setup when I was a kid was sufficiently weird enough that I watched a fair bit of aussie football when I was a kid. I can't remember who Carlton's rivals were, but I bet one of them was Sydney. EVERYBODY seemed to hate the swans.

How long ago was this? The Swans moved to Sydney in '82, becoming the first non-Victorian side, so that's probably why. They don't inspire too much hate these days.

Carlton's main rivals are Collingwood (who we just beat), Essendon and Richmond.

When ESPN was still in the early days, back in the early 80's, they didn't have the clout or the loot for rights to major sports here in the US. Those days they carried alot of Aussie Rules Football, as they (ESPN) called it, and I watched alot of it. I wish I could still find it. I miss it. As brutal as rugby but it moved faster, like soccer.

Hawethorn and Essendon where my two favorite teams back then.
