I think we can all agree, bacon is good. I mean so good that I've heard some Jewish people say that they eat it despite religious rules to the contrary. So what's the best type? American bacon, sometimes called streaky bacon? English bacon? Canadian "back bacon"?
And to clear up any confusion, when I refer to Canadian bacon, I'm not referring to the thick, 4" round ham slices that most people think of. I mean real peameal bacon, thus:
And if you vote "other" please let us in on the secret!

best bacon we ever had /have at times is the fresh bacon we try to get at the local sunset valley farmers' market-traditional rancher family everyone has clean cut western shirts and hats and super friendly-
the bacon sells out quick and we reserve 3 pounds at a time when we can get it..they can only get so many pounds otta a pig-(and they say their pigs are happy pigs with the family life they lead up till slaughter)
just plain good lean thick cut smoked bacon that is not overly salty-great for carbonara and on its' own or last time we wrapped some mignon with it..'Full Quiver Farms' is the place- they do cheeses in addition to meat.
just thinking about it makes me wanna go SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I became a vegetarian, and this thread hurts me. I miss bacon the most.

I didn't vote because I have only had the thin strips you get in the Northeast USA grocery stores (American Bacon?) and the round salty ham-like yumminess that is sold as Canadian Bacon in the same places. I know of back bacon from Bob & Doug, but I assume that's not exactly the Canadian Bacon/Pork Roll stuff we get here.

Well, ok, but I was envisioning something more than dropping a strip into a drink. What flavors does it pair well with? ... Maybe in a Bloody Mary instead of the vegetable?Blackneto wrote:thanks for proving it's not rocket science.felinamojokitty wrote:

That's what I was just about to say. A Very Large Shrimp is also good in a Mary.Illiniwek wrote:What flavors does it pair well with? ... Maybe in a Bloody Mary instead of the vegetable?
Also, I have to share this recipe: 1 Russet potato, rubbed with butter, and sprinkled with salt and pepper. You then wrap 2-3 strips of bacon around the potato, wrap all in foil, and lay on the grill for about 45 minutes. Flip over about halfway through.
This creation had my lovely bride making noises as she was eating it.

If you go to the Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas, they have a bacon martini. It's bacon-infused booze. I've had it. You will want to drink it quickly, otherwise it can get mucky.
