Mr Boston: Official Bartender's & Party Guide

Post by Dr. Dotto S. Blotto »

I finally bought the "Mr Boston: Official Bartender's & Party Guide" having wanted it for some time. I didn't post this in Not Booze Related because it is most definitely booze related AND I'm astonished at all the new drinks I get to make. :)

I'm going to carry this in my purse at.all.times.

So I take it you're a fan of the inimitable Mr. Lahey?

I like picking a range of letters (say, C to U) and, noting the page numbers, ask party goers to choose a page number. Not only does this provide for a small adventure in drinking, it is also a mini-test to ensure that your bar is stocked appropriately.

The thing is, Mr. Boston calls for anis fairly often and damnit if I never give Anis liquor or Ouzo the opportunity to sit idly in my cabinet.
I didn't fight a secret war in Nicaragua so you could walk these streets of freedom badmouthing Lady America, in your damn mirrored sunglasses!

The best aniseed liquor I've ever had has been "Gantous & Raad Arak."

100 proof, nothing but brandy and anise, yet it's delicious, and every bit as subtle as the weaker and pricier pastises like Pernod.

I have a very old Mr Boston guide I inherited from my late grandfather. Don't know how old, around the turn of the century. Still has absinthe recipies in it.
Beer's just being social. Whiskey's drinkin'.
