Gin and Coke???
A few of my Italian friends tell me this is a popular drink, especially in the south of Italy. I can't quite bring myself to try it.....maybe tonight I'll see about some Distiller's reserve and some Mexican sugar cane coke. Anyone else drink this?
Re: Gin and Coke???
Never had it, but sounds ick.
Drink your fucking drink, how about that? Stop the fuckin' presses, isn't it genius??

Re: Gin and Coke???
Never heard of it, never tried it. It sounds awful though.
I am slightly interested in how it comes out though.

Re: Gin and Coke???
I've tried it a few times. Like Vodka and coke, but with a few sprigs of some unidentified herb. A bit musty. To be avoided, unless you're very drunk.

Re: Gin and Coke???
Okay....I couldn't bring myself to mix gin with coke. But I came up with something perhaps a little different, that is very, very good.
I really like Whaler's dark rum, but generally always take it neat. It's a good rum, but very sweet and not very mixable. Enter the gin. My recipe is as follows:
Pint glass filled with ice.
Fill about half way with Whaler's (or other suitable dark rum)
Add about a shot of gin.
Squeeze in the juice from half a lime.
Fill up with cola of choice (I love Mexican Coke).
The gin brightens things up a bit....feel free to liberal with the rum to coke ratio, but I wouldn't put in more than a shot of gin--I think too much would be overpowering. But just the right amount leaves you with a drink that is relatively bright, with a nice hint of vanilla and a nice citrus zing to it.

I've only done it out of sheer desperation and foolishness of being young. I can assure you if anyone tried that in front of me now, on purpose, I'd beat the hell out of 'em!

Once when i was sorting out the hotel room my gf said she'd go grab us some drinks and ordered me this instead of a gin and tonic....wasn't that bad but i was quite stressed from the previous problems i was having and really a bit miffed i didnt get my tonic.
Drunk? I'm not drunk! You wouldn't dare accuse me of that if I was s0ber!

Out of necessity tried this again this morning. No tonic water, no lime, but plenty of 151 and coke. About a shot of gin, heavy pour of 151, and cola. Tastes like.....sweetened gin, I think. Good, though, very summery. Nothing like starting early on a saturday.

Admittedly, I haven't tried combining gin & coke or rum, gin & coke.
To each his own, but somehow, this just sounds wrong.

What part of Italy were your friends from? I lived in Naples for a while,a nd I've never heard of this, and I worked in a bar. From what I saw, the Italians drank mostly fruity shit and beer.

Re: Gin and Coke???
Sounds horrible. Betterer to mix it with any citrus flavored drink or just tonic. If its really good gin, drink it straight!
It's always a good day to get ripped!
