It's always fine weather for a Manhattan.
Break out the bitters. Dust off that bottle of Noilly Prat sweet vermouth. Get yourself some fine rye whiskey. Bourbon would do. But we both know you want rye. Skip the goddamn maraschino, but please do take an extra moment to slice a nice aromatic peel of orange as your garnish.
Raise the Manhattan.

Manhattans are dangerous their deliciousness can allow you to rapidly knock down a full bottle and incapacitate yourself- This, of course, makes them a perfect after work drink.

Oh you enabler, or is it instigator? My next pour shall be a Manhattan with orange bitters and a dash of maraschino syrup, to sweeten my mood.

Semi-related, apparently there is a boom going on in the maraschino cherry business since McDonald's decided to top every milkshake they serve with one. So severe was the swing in demand that some bars have started to ration them to only those that specifically request one or just stop stocking em altogether.
I remember in my college days sitting at the bar by the garnish station and just snacking on cherries. Another cherished memory, made impossible by the cruel hand of fate.

I've been drinking a lot of the Bulleit Rye lately. It's in my Top 10 booze, edging into the Top 5.

Drinking one right now. Made with Bulleit bourbon, Antica Carpano vermouth, Agaostura bitters and a maraschino cherry with a hint of the cherry juice on the rocks. Silly thing is, I went crazy on the vermouth purchase (have been wanting to try it for a while) and cheaped out $5 for the bourbon instead of the rye. Still, it's a wicked good drink.

I've never had a real manhattan in my life. That's the first drink I'll order next time I'm in USA.

Make sure you order one from somewhere that knows how to make them. Finding a properly made manhattan is almost as hard as finding a properly made martini.Mr Boozificator wrote:I've never had a real manhattan in my life. That's the first drink I'll order next time I'm in USA.

I have made myself one with cognac one day and it was really a fine drink, but of course, technically it was not a manhattan.
