Favorite cheap Scotch?

Post by absurdist »

OK, we all know the Laphroaigs, The Benrinnes, the ones we'd never turn down. But what about the other end? What about when you have $15 on Monday night and Friday is a long ways away, when several days' undrunkenness is out of the question, when going to the bar is out unless someone else is buying.

What then?

My current favorite, when I'm in an area that had a Trader Joe's, is their house label blend ($9.99USD/750ml) I think it's Famous Grouse relabeled. Other faves are Grant's ($12-14USD/750ml) and Famous Grouse ($16-20USD/750ml).

Any other suggestions? Dewar's sucks outright and Chivas tastes like good Scotch with a sugar cube dropped in it.

The bottle of Scoreby at my video store that I pissed in a year ago. The jerk that won't leave or get the hint that no one there likes him drinks from it now. This is the 30 year old guy who drank a whole bottle of anal desensitizer because he likes Jackass so much and thought we would think it was cool.

Jameson. That's 17 euros a bottle over here. Adds up to about 14 US dollars. Even tastes nice without additives.
Or Jim Beam white. 14 euros a bottle.

Isn't Jameson an Irish whiskey?

Euh, yeah that's true.
Than again, Jim Beam isn't scotch either.

Cheap though!

Dewer's?
The pours were heavy, too, and both bartenders had big tits, but I didn't notice.

Kluny. It's something like $15-$16 for 1.75 L.

Jamesons is a Malt Whisky from Ireland. Malt Whisky is blended with Rye Whiskey to produce scotch. Jim Beam is just some american tat. I got some for my 18th, wasnt bad, but not a mark on Bells.

I think as far as Scotch is concerned, if you are going to mix it, then you might as well get like the supermarkets own shit. Branded whisky favorites are certainly Bells, Grouse, Teachers and Grants.

Mine's Inver House Green Plaid 86-proof for P230-250 or about $5/750ml.
Pretty good for a whisky priced twice as high. It's an absolute shame that the local store never restocked it after me and the lads bought out their supply.

$5 a bottle?????? Sign me up!!!

The best I've seen is Glen Salen for $16 for 750cl bottle. But that's single malt....if you want to throw economy entirely in & taste entirely out, well then.....I have some experimenting to do.

Wish me luck lads!

Now please go eat loads of SHIT.

thanks.

Alright, fuck you all then.

I went & bought a bottle of Duggans Dew today for $10 & some change. I think I like it better than the Glen Salen. And it's 86.8%. Nice smoky flavor and the usual fun buzz that oonly brown water can give.
