Redemption Rye

This is sourced juice from Indiana. Ooooo that's bad, right? Wrong.

It's only bad if you pull a Templton's or some other hokey shit with it.

These guys do it right.

First they tell you right on the bottle it's sourced. They only claim to select and bottle.
Second thing they get right is they price it like sourced juice. No craft or small batch horse shit like High West or Templeton's. Those fuckers source and while Templeton's lied about it High West tell you it sourced. They both have 40 and upwards price points. That is fucking nuts for shit mass produced at a giant distillery in Indiana.

So this rye, priced in the 25 to 30 ball park most places, is really tasty.

The aroma is cinnamon, toffee and caramel.

Taste is a gentle vanilla kiss at the start that flows into a sweet caramel middle with a big spicy, peppery finish.

I would date her again Chuck.

I had that Redemption in my hand, looking for a different rye, I think i read the label and put it back because of that. I almost went with it at 92 proof, but opted for the Pikesville rye at 110 proof. That shit will git you there.

In all fairness, Templeton did start out making their own product, copper still and everything. But they grossly underestimated demand for their product, decided to outsource, and as Patchez says proceeded to lie about it, which sucks, so fuck Templeton.

On a side note, anyone noticed how the price of Old Overholt and Rittenhouse has been steadily bumping upward?

I am now thirsty for a Manhattan made with a heavy hand of rye.

Reviews and information shared like this is a big reason why I visit here (besides the friendly wait staff and clean rest rooms) - I must try this brand and will seek it out this weekend.

Thirsty, I've been on the look out for Pikesville as I've heard great things about it. One day I'll get my mitts on some.

Badfellow I think the price creep is because the hipster crowd of douche hats have discovered rye along with cheap, or used to be cheap beer. Just watch those stupid Miller commercials about the HighLife. The retailers know from the former hipster craft craze these idiots will pay anything for image. So the PBR's and High life, even my beloved Hamm's has started upwards.

Luckily it seem in some cases the craft market is swinging downward. This may also be attributed to the amount of brewers hitting the market.

Why in my day...rye was good simple workingman's booze, to be shot back with gusto or drunk in a simple yet satisfying Old Fashioned or mixed with gingerale.

I get itchy having to even consider paying $30-40-50 for it, let alone some of the spendy options.

That said, Redemption is my go to for the better stuff....Old Overholt is a daily drinker.

I don't really like buying sourced whiskey, but supposedly MGP's rye is stellar.

I'd rather reward someone for doing their own thing.

I don't mind buying sourced juice if the bottlers are transparent about it and it's priced accordingly. Especially if they are waiting on their own stuff to mature and they hit the initial profile expectation.

I despise the assholes that have this elaborate backstory and a hefty price tag. After a little digging it comes out as sourced. Fuck them. Be honest and price it right.
