I really love Bourbon

Post by Blackneto »

not so much a drinking story but a life story.

the year is 1993.
Me and my roommate Andy pretty much go through a couple handles of Jim Beam and a few cases of beer a week. We are poor but subsist on this, rice & eggs and taco bell 49cent menu.

The band I play with is having a xmas party so I head over with all my gear to rock in the fake berfday of the sun god and run through the Metallica's Binge & Purge box set.
the evening goes on. My girl buddy Shelly (who has a Fall Guy truck but instead of guns she keeps a bar in the pop-out) keeps my drinks filled. Beam & coke or Traitor an coke were the drinks of the day for me.
Turns out Shelly must have been trying to take advantage of me becaue each drink got stronger as the night wore on.
theres a mixed memory of a Japanese resturaunt, a fight on a snow covered lake and puking into a popcorn bowl. The details are legend and nobody really gets specific anymore.

All I know is I wake up and an unable to drink bourbon or anything remotely related without puking.

this malady exists for the next 6 or 7 years.

Time Marches On.. .I get married, not to shelly, have a few kids, gets a better job and buy a house. I find the MDM board and hear of the glorious missions of Casino and his quest for bourbon and feel a loss.
So I says, "Self" lets break this. I go to the local, order Bourbon after several beers and lo & behold! I'm Cured!

thats my tale. Many details are hazy but the important thing is to never give up on a lost love.

or some shit like that.
it's all chaff, a striving after the wind.

Bourbon is my favorite....neat, on rocks, manhattans, juleps, or club soda.

While I do not have a great story of pain, loss, and fuzzy popcorn-puke, I would like to state my love of bourbon.

I love bourbon. From the every-day goodness of Evan Williams to the top shelf stuff I can rarely afford. I love my Bulleit. Basil Hayden's gives me the weirdest and most vivid dreams I have ever had. Is it possible for booze to make someone halleucinate in their sleep?

That's a hell of a story. I myself also love bourbon and now feel lucky that any aversion I've ever had toward it only lasted about 24 hours.

Indeed, good sir, indeed.

I had a terrible experience with tequila as a mere lad and swore off it for over 10 years... but returned. Can't imagine that happening with my beloved bourbron.

tequila is great, bourbon is better. Yes, hallucinating in your sleep is called dreaming. But I do notice that booze helps you have lucid dreams, ones in which you can control what happens.

I don't know, guys. There's a thin line between drunken reality and dreams, especially when it comes down to sex. Sometimes, when I wake up, I really can't tell if I've had sex or it was just a dream. I mean, all things were heading towards sex and in my mind I did have it, but I'm just not sure. I'm always unsure towards my redhead in this regard.

I go easy on the Bourbon now because it give me acid reflux if I misbehave. I still loves me some felony juice, though, neat or in Margaritas.

I love bourbon. So much. Never got into whiskey at a young age because we were always shooting Jack or Beam. I don't like either of those whiskies, and I've found that shooting is really not the way to enjoy whiskey. Its made for sippin'. It wasn't until I got in the habit of drinking giant styrofoam cups of Old Crow on ice in college that I discovered that I loved bourbon. I went through a period my senior year of college where I drank a different bottle of bourbon each night, an era I fondly recall as the Bourbon Rennaissance. I have beautiful memories of lying on my back in my front yard under a clear moonlit western Massachusetts sky as my roommates wailed away at Ween covers in the house with all the windows open, a bottle of Rebel Yell perched on my chest. Now, that's love.

Yea that shit sucks, thats the one thing I hate about blacking out, especially when you black out everynight. I would always wonder if me and the old lady had sex or not, and I am sure as hell not going to ask. I just assume we did, plus she wakes up in a great mood and makes me breakfast.

I say just have another drink between drinks. I don't want to run a salad shop or channel elvis or whatever your getting at. Sounds like you need to stick to all the water and leave the booze to the professionals.
