A Real Dive Bar... Finnley's.

Post by Patchez »

This little gem is a former bank barn turned into a bar. That, in and of itself, is awesome. If you don't know what a bank barn is it's this:Image
The horses or cattle are on the bottom tier and the bank is used to drive the hay wagons or tractors up to the loft, so hay is easily thrown to the critters.

So a short journey in photos.

Out side the bar.

Six pool tables inside, free four nights a week.

Those are cooler lids behind the bar. N ot your regular bar style coolers..... I mean 150 qt coolers you or I could buy at Wal-Mart.

Even top shelf is mid shelf.

Overall, except for somone being killed there it has all the qualities of a dive bar and none of the contrived "dirtiness" of a Faux dive.

Oh and for further cred. The men's shitter. Or Loo.

You forgot to put the address of the place. Nice photos, though.

Really got a sense of the place, nice work on the photo essay Patchez

Looks like a nice place to have a few drinks and rack em up. The lighting above the bar is the tell, but the urinals look adequately jury-rigged as well!

More of us should do this photo essay thing. Doctor moderator, does this site have the storage capacity?

It does and we also have a capacity for attachments to be added to a post, allowing Board members to download things permanently or temporarily, from any post with an attached file added.

Have a look, next time you post. It's just under the caption section and right next to "Options".

The address is 2225 Seven Valleys Rd. Seven Valleys, PA 17360

Sorry for the oversight but in my defense I was a tad inebriated when I posted. As it should be I suppose.

Well, now the conversation deepens: is it a dive or a shitkicker bar?

To me, dives cannot be separated from the urban context. This is not to say that a shitkicker bar cannot have many of the same attributes as a dive, but to me they are different animals.

Or is that one can of worms too many?

I suppose it would have to be a shitkicker bar then, as the nearest town of any size is about 8 miles away. It is indeed in a rural setting. Though it is usually inhabited by blue collars and bikers, some old hippies and the occasional cowboy type. I was unaware of any local population requirements for dives.

I read this not-too-drunk, still paints quite interesting picture.

Yesterday another dive hole-in-the-wall kind of place was gone when I was in Helsinki. Interesting place it was.
