It's almost that time of year again.
What is more fun than a summer music festival? A 3-day, camping out weekend of drinking and meeting interesting people?
I have my eye on 2 festivals this year. I don't have a car, so I have to stay sort of in the area, so a friend can pick up my bum ass.
(1.) Jamboree in the Hills. While I don't particularly like country music, this festival has become a legend. I lived in Wheeling for 4 years and never went, b/c I didn't want to cough up the money. But a group of friends are going this year and I'm determined to join them. http://www.jamboreeinthehills.com/
(2.) This one is not too far from me, and it looks fun, too: http://www.hookahville.com/
I've been to an Ekoostic Hookah show before, and it was fun. Plus I think there's bluegrass.
So, does anyone else have any concert plans this summer? Or fond memories of concerts past?

Bluegrass festivals kick ass. I've been to the big 3 in Colorado: Telluride, Lyons and Pagosa Springs
and some other smaller ones.
Might do Telluride again this year if I don't drink myself into the poorhouse in Denver.

Grew up and went to high school quite close to our local amphitheater. Luckily, had many friends who worked at said amphitheater, and therefore was able to sneak into many concerts as a wild teenager. Sadly, not the case any longer. Summer concert tickets are expensive; not to mention the astronomical beer prices, obnoxious drunken kids, parking nightmares . . . it's almost too much trouble.
Key word being "almost." I do have some concert stories that are quite embarrassing(sp?) That's why I only pick one or two a year. I most certainly DON'T have the money to go to every cool concert each summer.phryne wrote:Summer concert tickets are expensive; not to mention the astronomical beer prices, obnoxious drunken kids, parking nightmares . . . it's almost too much trouble.

http://www.musicmidtown.com every year even though ticket prices keep escalating for the 3-day event. Need to find a hotel so as to avoid the terrors of driving.

I'm not a big fan of summer festivals. Rock and roll isn't made for the wide open spaces in my opinion. Having said that, Foghat is playing at the Taste of Colorado this year and I will me there. I also might see the "Sounds of the Underground" tour, but that's a big maybe.
Neither of those are overnighters though, so I'll just shut up now.

Hmmm. That's interesting. I feel the exact opposite way: I think arena concerts are fun and all and the acoustics are obviously much better, but the whole experience outdoors is more memorable -- the people you meet, the places you pee, etc.zx147 wrote:I'm not a big fan of summer festivals. I love summer festivals! but now they're really expensive and the ticket prices here have practically doubled in the past 3 years (due to many children realising they can get drunk where mommy cant see them!) and they sell out almost straight away. im going to one this year http://www.leedsfestival.com but just for the day, cant be arsed witht he peice of two weekend tickets and i think they sold out already, i used to enjoy glastonbury but that too has turned into a child filled wankerfest!
nefvermind i still have my memories, i'll just have to wait till sitting in a bus shelter listening to hard house and techno music whilst drinking winecollers becomes cool again and the arses that inhabit the festivals here return to where they truly belong and free up the camping space, im not sure if this is the case in the states but here in merry old england all the people who used to listen to techno and other dance music have decided that they want to be "alternative" and now the streets are paved with wannabe goths and suchlike, i may go to a folk festival just to recapture the chilled out fests of yore!
or maybe i'll stay home and spend the money on beer, might switch the radio on and fet out atent.have a little festival of my own

I didn't say I like arena shows either. Hell, I can't even remember the last time I went to one of those. I'm a bar band man. Different worlds.Jackie07 wrote:Hmmm. That's interesting.
