at the old bouncers bar in san francisco, they used to have a t shirt that said ' tired of the same old shit? try bouncers! '
it had a pic of a guy with a pile of shit in both hands.
classy!
had one of the shirts but gave it away as a gift.

barkeep said Bert's dates from early 1950s (I'm surprised this county woulda allowed it back then). Present owner added the "We only look expensive" signage when he took it over about 13 years ago. I'm told place hasn't changed since the 50s--but that would be expected here parts. Yates Center (Woodson county's seat and biggest town) is bit over hour east of Wichita, but many more years away. Population was much more in 50s. Been on decline since then. Only place in town that served distilled spirits (legally) just went outta business

Here is Bert's current bumper sticker and side shot of the place, along side Hwy 75:

It wasn't a bar sign so to speak in the conventional sense.

There use to be a small dive on Route 60 very near the Newport News-James City County line called Kitchens Kitchen. A place of very devoted but somewhat wild drunkards there was a Louisville Slugger on a rack behind the bar with the words -

'DON'T FUCK UP' written on it in bold black magic marker letters.

It's not necessarily a sign, but the best graffiti I've seen in a bar would have to be over the Urinal in Grits Bar in New Orleans, LA.
