Re: RIP, Ray Manzarek
To the memory of a great musician. I must confess I never realized how important he was for the doors before listening to that interview that Peetie posted. Impressive.

Heard a great interview replay today with him with Pierre Robert a few days before his birthday in 1998.
Asked what he was going to do on his birthday:

I'm going to do what you're supposed to do on your birthday: eat cake, drink champagne, and ball the old lady

Re: RIP, Ray Manzarek
What were the odds of this wildman Morrison meeting up with Manzarek at UCLA? Who knows if there weren't other capable musicians around. Odds were slim we would have known The Doors or even Morrison.

Wait, what? MacLachlan died?
Just kidding, here are the UK obituaries and articles.
Here's a glass to the man who made bass players think about getting a "fall back career"!

Re: RIP, Ray Manzarek
I first heard of Ray as the producer of X's Under The Big Black Sun. I only got into The Doors (beyond just listening to it on the radio) later on. He not only helped the L.A. scene gain some credibility as a member of The Doors, but he also helped the L.A. New Wave scene as a producer. I already miss him.

R.I.P.
I've never listened to The Doors at length. Like NightShiftCharlie, I knew him better as a producer for X.

Re: RIP, Ray Manzarek
I was a huge Doors fan in high school. Morrison was a shaman, Manzarek a visionary. Together they made real magic.
RIP, Ray.

Re: RIP, Ray Manzarek
There was a scene in the Oliver Stone movie and Val Kilmer's character Morrison was asked near the end of the film at the peak of his fame what people wanted. Morrison says they want something sacred. There you have it. He certainly delivered. That makes him an urban shaman.TheBigCasino wrote:yep, RIPFast Cast wrote:I was a huge Doors fan in high school. the keyboards and Piano in LA Woman, I've never heard anything so depressing and so uplifting at the same time. I can't enter that city without listening to that song. City of night, indeed.
