Damn hard to find thread, so I changed its name slightly. Anyway... Cab Calloway, courtesy of Grooveshark. Drink: bourbon, duh. Secret shame: Not getting the Halloween stuff out in a timely manner, as I am here, drinking and listening to music.

Rose Tattoo! Amazing Aussie rock from the late 70s that I just discovered recently. Shit is Awesome.

George fucking Jones. Presently, the King Is Gone (and So Are You). Damned clever song. It's the pop culture references that make it.

George fucking Jones, goddamn you. If the Drinking Don't Kill Me (Her Memory Will)

Damned fine tragicomedy. Now, it's easy to think of this gem as an anti-drinking song, but plainly it's not. First off, it's the booze that's getting him through the pain of the breakup that he swears might kill him. This is a mid-stream ballad, he's not through it yet, but bolstered and buoyed by booze, as he is, songwise, I'm nearly certain he got through it.

The best parts? Shutting all the bars down, nice; the head on the horn is certainly awesome; the blood from his body could start his own still, that's pretty goddamn good; but best of all is this line: "As I trip on the floor and I lightly touch down." That is genius. That says so much.

Here's the live version on Utube. Dig it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWqbazi67Uw

Hello,

I'm trying to get in touch with Giles Humbert III - I'm currently researching a historical personage that was mentioned in an article he wrote for Modern Drunkard in 2005. Just wondering if anyone could provide me with an email address.

Thanks

Heard on the radio last night and I know some here admire the Chairman, so it was...
An orchestral piece by Alec Wilder recorded in the 40s by the Columbia Strings led by none other than Frank Sinatra in his conducting debut, and Mitch Miller playing solo oboe. Not pop, but not too shabby either. On a Sony disk.

The clothes dryer (probably left some change or a lighter in my pocket--it's rather loud), my dog barking, and the roo crowing outside.
The cabin sits shut-down, cold-frozen and empty, dead mice in the traps, waiting for me to drink alone there in the dark.
