Based of the book by Hunter S. Thompson. Looks like itll be a good movie to go see while in a drunken stuper.

I'm hoping this does for booze what 'Fear and Loathing' did for psychedelics...

Looks pretty good. But why does it always have to be johnny depp?
Re: The Rum Diarys
Possibly because Thompson took liking to this Depp dude and also approved his acting in fear and luffin in las veguz stuff.JimLahey wrote:Looks pretty good. But why does it always have to be johnny depp?

Re: The Rum Diarys
The protagonist of the novel was essentially HST at the time he wrote it, which was a 22-year-old sports writer. In that regard, Depp does seem an odd choice, but he's obviously done well as HST before, so I'm definitely excited for this one. Maybe the Mrs. and I will sneak in a bottle of demon rum and take in a screening.

I love Hunter and thought Depp did an excellent job in F&L. However, I am a little worried about this one, especially without Hunter around to oversee things.
I'll miss you, pallie.

I agree. Also, 22 year olds make shitty writers. Even ones who were total beasts later.BeerMakesMeSmart wrote:I love Hunter and thought Depp did an excellent job in F&L. However, I am a little worried about this one, especially without Hunter around to oversee things.

Re: The Rum Diarys
Depp spent a very long time with HST at his home prior to F&L to do character research and had the approval of the man himself. I don't think anyone else would really be able to channel him as closely. In any event, this makes it a second movie. These things have to come in threes.
