I remember those pics from a year ago, my son was just born, so of course, I was home wasted. and now here we are, just past his first birthday and we get a second round, and I'm again wasted.

Fantastic.

One of these days I've got to get out to one of the states where they do ice fishing right. It hasn't frozen over here in southern PA enough since I was a kid.

One day.

First Ice

Just a little over 2" on Wabasis Lake, cracked and creaked going out. Everybody keeping thier distance so no communal drinking this afternoon.

Returned to the car to find a Founder's All-Day I.P.A. tucked under the windshield wiper, a couple suspect donors' cars were not about.

Ice fishermen are among the finest drunkards on the planet.

I really want to try ice-fishing, one day. Or, rather, sitting about a hole in the ice, preferably in a hut, drinking heavily, whilst, probably, not catching anything much besides drunk.

I'm with Palinka on this one. Just once or twice, any reason to get loaded sounds good here!

Well, it would be based on the "weight of fish *times* volume of alcohol imbibed / body mass (of the ice fisher)" factor. Clearly.

This seems like a reasonable solution. Smaller fish mean you need to hooch more to stay in the running. Bigger fish means you need to hooch more to stay in the lead. Fat bastard like me... well, i'll need to hooch more just get on the board.

Sunday's Ice Fishing Report

Post by Smatter Noguts »

I got up early, but Stub called and said he didn't feel well enough to go, and at 82 you get to make excuses without getting called on them, so I went alone over Mrs. Noguts' objections.
Stub usually has a thermos of half espresso / half cheap Canadian whiskey, usually McMasters, and I bring cheap lite beer, so that's all I had to work with.
Got out at sunrise, had to use snowshoes to get back into Pickerel Lake, then shovel and augered in three holes to get down to fishing. Not another human being in sight all morning long, not even any sign of any past presence, and not a single bite.
I went for the first beer of the day and realized a cold-climate rookie mistake: as soon as the beer can was popped, it turned to slush. Fuck.
I contemplated the cold wintery surroundings for a while, considered going home, or body heating the cans at the cost of lowering my core temperature, then went to change out a lure and in the bottom of the tackle box beheld the forgotten gift of an anonymous fellow angler on a past trip: a three quarter full quart of Skyy.
I love drinking alone in the wilderness. Some of the best times of my life have been spent doing this. But I got reminded today that that's not possible without others.
1 P.M. Switched gears to B.M.'s, then plan on drinking Dexters later this afternoon. I wish everyone a wonderful drunken day.
