Galaxy Quest.

The theme of a narcissistic bumbler being hoisted off by aliens and finding out he is in fact a kickass space captain, is a big theme in what my life is truly meant to be about. The international rockstar motif is a clever ruse in the meantime.

Monty Python has been mentioned. That's good. As has Big Lebowsky, which covers by proxy Raising Arizona and O Brother Where Art Thou.

I don't see Spinal Tap/A Mighty Wind/Best In Show mentioned. Those need to be on the list.

Also a grievous oversight: Strange Brew.
Geez you're real nice... If I didn't have puke breath, I'd kiss you.

The entire Firefly series, culminating with the Serenity film, is a viewing experience I repeat with some regularity. In fact, I'm due to recommence soon.

Some Like It Hot is a pretty good film (and that link will take you to the full movie).

And here's a link to The Thin Man, full movie (although you may have to piss around, downloading a "player" ("flash" or "real") to get to watch it).

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is fun (and the link will take you to the movie version).

I went to see that in the cinema. My friends and I were being nuisances and throwing things about the theatre

I found that film hysterical all the way to the end.

I've watched that three times, and read the five book trilogy, oh gawd... well the first three no fewer than six times, and I'm being conservative rather than hyperbolic.

It left out a lot from the books, of course, and added some in, of course, but the chaotic feel of it was perfectly in the spirit of the books. Ford Prefect didn't look like the guy in my mind, but he sure acted like him. What a brilliant movie.

And it's got Sam Rockwell in it, as does Galaxy Quest.

Marvin really stood out for me as not being what I had pictured. I also for some reason always imagined Zaphod being fat, even though I'm sure it said otherwise in the books

In Like Flint, and Our Man Flint. Grumpy loves those movies. I bought them for him a few years ago. I had never heard of them, until he began ranting about them.

Few movie actresses have ever pulled off class and desirability like Myrna Loy. She's the bee's knees.

Under the Volcano is depressing as shit, but Albert Finney pulls off one of the great movie drunks of all time. I loved the Macolm Lowry book, and while the movie didn't quite do it justice, it came close. I'd throw that one in when you're in the mood for some good old tragedy.

AGREED!

...and while I prefer that my favorite drinking movies contain lots of drinking, there are certain flicks that serve well even though there's relatively limited booze intake.

Zombieland and Idiocracy are two of my favorite drinking movies, and there ain't much booze in either. Go figger.
