Crown Royal Black- "Bold as Bourbon..."

The tag line for the commercial is "Bold as Bourbon. Smooth as Crown." What are those Canadians trying to pull over on us?

I reckon it involves sheeps' coats and ocular sensors. They're crafty in the north

I've had the Crown Black. And while it is definitely NOT "bold as bourbon", for a Canadian blend, it definitely has an in-your-face taste. I bought my manager (he's from Canada) a 750ml bottle at a US airport duty-free couple of years ago...it didn't last long.

I wouldn't turn it down if it were free, but I've yet to encounter a Canadian whisky that I truly enjoyed. I find them to be thin and bland, like somebody added half of a "whisky flavoring" packet to some vodka then slapped a $40 price tag on it.

And when a bold, honest bourbon like EW can be had for $9, that's not really even a choice.

I agree, I had some (free thank God) at a Diageo tasting last week. It's just more of the same. The Crown Royale reps were very nice but the product just wasn't there, so to speak.

I find that Canadian and Irish whiskeys lack character, much like Canadians and Irishmen.

I must admit I am devoid of character

I thought Crown Black was very good, in a Canadian way. It's nothing like bourbon though.

You bring up a good point there Screwball. With booze you can try all kinds of stuff. It may be disgusting or it may be delicious. You could get lucky and find something you like enough to put into your drink rotation. You may learn a lesson and find something you will never buy again. But no matter the outcome you know THAT SHIT WILL GET YOU DRUNK.

With the Crown Black, I tried it, I got drunk on it, but I wasn't overly impressed. I don't remember drinking it since then. Just like regular Crown Royal, I like it, but I would usually, given the choice, opt for a bourbon of less expense.
