Is Henry Rollins my generations HST?

Post by Hardcore Stig »

Now this is a weird call is he's pretty much straight edge, and I'm not going to try to influence you with a list of things to see, he's prolific enough thatyou can pick and choose on Youtube.

But is this man genuinely the HST templayte of me (late 70's, early80's) born generation? He clearly doesn't conform to the popular view, his days in Black Flag are one thing, but watch his interviews or spoken word. He's essentially Gonzo and with that attitude of being without forcing.

I realize that this is mostly apocryphal, but I'm just going to leave this here.

Show me Rollins at 6 a.m. in a hot tub with a plate of fettuccine alfredo and then we'll talk.

While I love Henry and a good portion of his anti-veiws, he's hardly HST. Hunter was " One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live".

Henry is a different kind of mutant, a separate prototype altogether. Though they both wanted to blow up the system as they saw it and call out the douchebags and crooks in charge, they go about it in very different ways. They also diverge in the areas of lifestyle with Henry being much more health conscience and Hunter a more Hedonistic approach.

Comparing HST to Henry Rollins is just too weird for serious consideration. I, therefore, demand a breathalyzer test on this thread; anyone who blows below 1.0 is not fit to post.

you understand that will mean I'll only make arsehole posts, and nothing else?

Also, Henry Rollins has always come across as a bit of a prat to me, though I know people who worship his every word.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose...

However, I meant for that requirement to be only for this thread and this thread alone.

I coughed up a draft for this thread, but now I don't like it.

It's an interesting suggestion. I first saw Henry Rollins in a spoken word show when I was 15. Love him in many ways, and can even respect his boozeless, smokeless, drugless approach to life.

It's probably be wrong to completely dismiss the idea that he is a HST for our generation, but I can't fully accept it either.

What I will say for Rollins is something I won't say for many dries: I respect his resolve.

I don't see it. Rollins is more inward-focused and small, talking about what makes him hate himself or his immediate surroundings. The Dr. was more a citizen of the world, trying to rally a bored citizenry against the few swinish bastards who would seek to enslave us. Plus, as others have mentioned, the chemicals.

I used to live in DC and once saw Rollins and Ian MacKaye go into our local Fro-Yo shop. So fucking hardcore.

I never met HST, but I know Henry Rollins from the '80s LA punk scene. Haven't seen him in at least 20yrs, but never knew him to drink or do drugs.
