This is nothing but a BS attempt by state and municipal governments (helped by in$urance company lobbyists) to criminalize reasonable behavior, while adding $$ to state and municipal coffers -- not to mention huge increases in auto insurance rates. As far as the numbers of people killed in traffic accidents where alcohol is involved, people driving while being below .08% BAC aren't the ones causing the carnage; rather it's stupid fucks who are driving well above the limit -- often, 2-3 TIMES above it. For those assholes, you throw away the key.

What would be nice is that, if this goes into legislation, it is accompanied by an increase in public transportation funding.

Public transportation in Louisville is terrible and non-existent after midnight.

I was just reading this like 10 minutes ago.

Unfortunately, public transportation in Maine does not exist, unless you live in Portland proper. This bill, if passed, would effectively kill off the bar trade in Portland, which would have a huge negative impact on tax revenue, which would have the politicians running in circles trying to figure out what happened. And never making the connection between the two.

Take the bar business out of the Old Port, and that city is fucked.

0.1->0.08->0.05, next step is zero tolerance.
We have it over here, but I live in a city with excellent public transport (including night hours) and reasonably priced taxi service.
For others it sucks.

Do you think they would not know? They are aware now, I guess, however, until they are not personally involved as owners of those establishment, they will not do anything, as they live under the influence of prohibitionists' lies.

as far as I'm aware, 0.08 would mean that you're starting to feel a bit drunk. I think that is right, because as they say about speed limits, "it's not a target". There needs to be leeway or it's a stupid test. I think that a much bigger problem is people simply people driving like dickheads, but that's a different matter. I think that people close to the limit should get a slap on the wrist, but if you're getting up to the 0.18-0.20 area you should get a severe punishment, because you are just taking the piss

Depends on who you are. I'm not encouraging drunk driving by any means but I blew .26 and passed my roadside tests. Only got pulled over because I was drag racing. I don't see the fucking point of having roadside tests if the officer cannot make his own decision whether you are ok to drive or not. With .08 I doubt I would be feeling anything.

It's going to be zero tolerance eventually, cuz this country is going down the tubes. Even the founder of MADD disagree with this.
