He died a few months ago. Never drank. He was a very devout Quaker. I was very close to him, he worked in a technical college from the age of 16 and never missed a single day of work. When I say he never drank, he never deliberately did, apart from the ginger wine he kept buying, thinking it was non-alcoholic.
My other granfather, however, drank bucketfuls of wine while pretending to cook dinner, added brandy and liqueurs to champagne to "liven it up", and died after a party while my grandmother was away refilling his glass. Sadly I was too young to know him.
