Oddly enough I was driving home Friday night and heard the theme song for that movie (Herb Alpert and the TJ Brass I believe) and it made me smile. Mata Hari indeed.

Was always pleased to share a first name (for my name isn't always Shane) with the man.

There was so much I didn't know about him until the obituaries came out. There are pictures out there of the inside of the bar he designed. Stunning.

Re: A Sad Day for British Comedy.
Let's not forget the film Drop Dead Fred. Yes that is a loss. I watched a lot of The Young Ones in more youthful days. His impact reached far beyond GB and the BBC.
Here's to you, Mr. Mayall, for all the laughter. I hope Groucho Marx and W.C. Fields have a drink waiting for you when you get there.

He has ben part of my comedy experience since I can first remember laughing at the TV.
He will be missed, but I am glad to have seen his work and to remember the good times.

That is truly sad. He always made me laugh whtever he was in. I'm not much for poetry, but I have all of his Young Ones poems memorized. BOMBS.
Even more sad, Cliff Richard still lives.

Re: A Sad Day for British Comedy.
A brilliant comic actor, taken from us at far too young an age. I think Rik would have aged into being one of the world's most amusing old men, given the chance. One of my personal comedy heroes.
Whether he was holding his own, or forming a dynamic duo with Ade Edmonson, he was top class. One of his best traits was an uncanny knack for doing facial expressions. Few could match the sheer number of different looks he could do on cue.
One of my favorite Rik stories is the time he was outside the theater during a break in a Bottom Live show, and he got himself arrested for waving his prop handgun around in public as a joke. I think he figured people would recognize him and not take it seriously. That kind of spontaneity was his trademark.
I rewatch the Bottom and Filthy, Rich, & Catflap episodes so often I should probably check into comedy rehab, and so much of his other stuff is on my regular list as well. Dangerous Brothers, Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door, and even Guest House Paradiso all make regular appearances when drunken laughs are called for.
To you, my fine friend. This time Death came for you, and it wasn't Eddie wearing stilts, but I'm sure you taught him how to spell scythe just the same. Thanks for the laughs, and if you don't mind, I'll keep them going thanks to video.
Rest in peace, you magnificent B'Stard.
This will be my 500th post. Fitting.
