Ahoy there, shipmates.
I got myself thinking about the good old Modern Drunkard recently (while in rehab) and wondered if it was still around.
So now that I'm out I looked it up, and lo and behold, here you magnificent bastards are.
Looking forward to catching up with this forum.
As for me... I'm just another tipsy sailor on these sad dark seas.

I was probably drunk when I said that, but I meant it.

As you can see, we are still around, and The Magazine is now onto Vol.2. (So,why not do yourself a favour and take out a subscription?).
I hope that your stay in rehab wasn't too traumatic and that you were able to quickly find a decent bar in which to catch up.

See you around the Board.

Nah, rehab wasn't so bad. It was my first stint, 30 days. People were nice, food was good.

My dark seas are figurative at the moment, but they've been literal in the past, and I'd like to go back in the future.

Rehab? My little step daughter was sent to it, and the people there, patients and med personnel, were somewhat nuttier than she was. If I ever am determined to need to be confined to a facility, just throw me in my own bed, with a stack of books, a notebook and pens, and some chocolate. Oh, and good music. The three B's, Mozart, and those sorts of fellers. Or maybe some Glenn Miller, and that sort of ilk. A cat would be nice, too, but our last one died of old age.

I made this account when I was drunk yesterday, but I forgot.

Luckily I got drunk again today, and checked my mail. I was surprised to find this confirmation mail. And yet, here I am, drunk & ready. I've been a loyal reader of MDM for about 6 years now, and I've been lurking on these chatboards for about a year. Apparently I finally gathered the motivation to register last night, so hey, here I am.

About me: I've been an seriously enthousiastic abuser of alcohol since about my 14 years (I'm from Europe, you can drink beer from 16 here, and I looked about that age at my 14th). Things went pretty much downhill from there. So currently I ended up in a situation where I'm "taking a break from college" and am a bartender myself.

Not really sure where this post is going, but I guess this is a pretty okay introduction of me.
Cheers amigos!

Welcome aboard Drinking Rat.
I hated college, bigheaded folks everywhere. Taking a break for some drink notches up your curriculum vitae big time in my book.
I quit my job quickly after finishing college, if not for drinking it would`ve been a total waste of time. They wanted to hire me for eternity, jumping in front of a train or a big bridge were suddenly the only things I could think of.
Well here I am, evading the obstacle called everyday life and feeling great. Oh and new one buys, vodka lemon please
Drink!

I'm reading Hemingway at the moment and that drunken bastard's prose has got me in a mind to write and to drink and when I drink the birds sing and the bees buzz and when I go out in the meadow and the breeze blows it takes me back to the fields of Normandy where I met the woman that would eventually call my name in the night with passion and love so that I might never forget this night despite the quart of rum I have ingested.

Now that that is out of my system, what say you to a drink?
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.

You have lots of moderators. Devout censors I call them. Can I be a moderator? I could moderate myself and free up your time. I am retired from the computer field. I learned to drink in high school while living in upstate New York. Back then, 1970s, the drinking age was 18 and that entitled you to drink anything. Then I joined the Marines and learned how to perfect my drinking. I enjoy whisky--used to like beer but too much carbs for my type 2 diabetes. I am currently making wine and drink that. I make sure all the sugar is fermented. Like a dry wine.

I like the idea of female drinking moderators. Men and women need each other.
