Not horrible when used as the fuel in a Manhatten, so long as the oxidizer is Noily, Stock, or Martini & Rossi.

my cheap whiskey is usually Evan Williams. Herd to beat it for value. Taste per dollar I'd stack it up against anything.

Yep, and at 43%, there is no better steal out there.

I totally forgot Mellow Corn. How the hell did I forget that?

I think it's cause it's hard to find, but that stuff is ambrosia.

Never had it myself, but coincidentally, it was recently reviewed.

At 50%, that's one Kickin' Kernel.

Has and always will be Kessler's.

It is in all of my Old Fashions of Brandy is unavailable, but if I am making a Manhattan I spring for better booze.

Kessler's is mostly vodka, with 25% actual whiskey added. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you can afford better, do so.

I will say this - strangely, it's smoother than Jim Beam White. I guess that's a testament to how much Beam's base product has declined.

I gotta go with Rebel Yell for my cheap whiskey or choice. If that's not available (for some reason only a few stores carry it here) I'll go with the Crow.

Kentucky Choice bourbon. Same as in my profile pic. Ten bucks a liter at the local booze shop makes it the cheapest around.

For good times in tough financial times, I reach for the Early Times. $9.99 a bottle and entirely inoffensive. It doesn't hurt that their advertising campaign is solely based around day drinking, too.
Jerry Horne: "Sweetheart, I'd like to order two drinks: one double scotch on the rocks, and my brother would like a double scotch on the rocks."

Waitress at One Eyed Jacks: "...That's two double scotch on the rocks?"

Jerry Horne: "Next stop, rocket science."

As patchez would say, start with tastes of the good stuff, then end with the cheap tarts in the bad part of town.

Evans is actually very tasty for its low price

My local liquor store (where I am President, King, and God, and they give me free stuff because I pay cash) started selling handles, yes handles, of Wild Turkey 101 for $18. Those things are worth close to 50 bucks retail.

The distributor made a mistake, or the owner did. Either way, I am proceeding to get drunker than Hunter S. Thompson, in a most delicious way.
