Alcohol and Caffeine

Post by Badfellow »

Recently I was at a convenience store getting coffee, and I happened to notice something new in with the creamer and sugar. It's called SToK coffee shot and it comes packaged in a sealed plastic cup much like creamer or half and half. Of course, I was intrigued and filled my pockets with several dozen of the complimentary servings.

According to the label, it is a non-dairy coffee product containing 40mg of caffeine per serving. It's basically coffee concentrate, cold pressed from what I can tell.

I first tried adding a serving to a half cup of hot water which produced something better than truck stop coffee. The next step, of course, was to add a splash of liquor, in this case being Evan Williams. Success!

Where the potential really lies for this space aged coffee concoction is as a cocktail ingredient, and being able to conveniently dump a little "pick me up" into your glass of booze at will. It would require some good rye and sweet vermouth, but a Manhattan with a concentrated shot of coffee added to the works might not be a bad thing.

It's not c-c-c-cocaine. It's c-c-c-caffeine.

40mg seems like a reasonable place to start.

Those Red Bull-charged drinks you can get at bars have too much, in my opinion. Gots me all cracked out.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Exactly. It's about the same as black tea. By comparison, the average cup of coffee can run anywhere from 100-150mg.

The real point though is that the flavor of coffee goes most exceptionally well with a wide range of booze.

Has anyone tried iced coffee served through a nitrogen dispenser? It's similar to the Guinness effect, and it makes me want to dump some dark rum all up in that foamy mofo.

Bourbon goes excellent in a cup of coffee. Unfortunately for me as I've gotten older caffeine really gets to me, makes me anxious, so coffee is becoming more and more of rarity for me.

That is a very wierd article:

"Globally, it’s not uncommon for non-alcoholic beverages to be sold in the same system as alcoholic beverages. It makes sense to give this a try in our market,” Garduño added."

Likewise. I don't drink coffee anymore these days but may try this. Surely the respective effects would cancel each other out?

In which case there would be absolutely no effect so consumption would be pointless. But I'll still try. I don't know. Something must come of it, possibly hellacious, possibly useless. It's hot bourbon anyway - who could resist?

Coffee and Bourbon are quite tasty together and well worth trying.

Fixed that for.ya. I guess it's all in the perspective.
