Yep! Did ten hours on a single barstool earlier this week. I went through two bartenders.Nausea wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 5:21 pmYou're a nomadic drunk. I've decided to try to have a drink in each one today. I'm flying solo, so I don't have to worry about any agenda but my own. There is an oddly sad beauty in this.

Dear Booze - aren't you in San Diego? Where did you hit those bars? I've heard of people doing the Adams Avenue pub crawl, but I don't think there are that many bars there. Were you in Pacific Beach?

No, I'm up in the central valley. But I come down to your area fairly often.

Re: Another Solo Mission
Thirty-six years ago this month, in fact almost to the day (December 2), Buk wrote this in a letter to a fellow poet:
"I got enough of the bars about 20 years ago. now I like drinking alone. Hemingway said that was the sign of a true alky. I don't mind being an alky except I get sad for what's left of my liver. but at the age of 62 I figure each day I go on I've beat the odds. I'm drinking now. maybe that's why I'm carrying on like this. like the guy at the bar next to you telling it all. what dull little fellows. they want somebody to talk to. that's one reason I got out of those places: lonely people are boring."
That's from volume 3 of his letters.
Just last week an old guy next to me at the bar was babbling about how bad the humidity was in Miami where he was originally from. While his topic of conversation bored me (he had been boring the bartender before I came in), I had sympathy for him and smiled as he chatted. But like Buk, I do wish people would learn to like themselves enough that they can stay home and drink alone. BTW, the old guy pulled an Irish goodbye when he found nobody would sit and listen to him. I wonder if he went to another bar or back home - it was early afternoon.
Headed over to the liquor store now for a six pack of Hamm's, if they have it. If not, Bud. Oh - and a Slim Jim! I guess I would tell Hemingway that drinking alone is not the sign of a true alky - unless he has a dinner of plastic-wrapped processed meat food for dinner prior to imbibing.
What the fook are you guys doing tonight?

We need to find a way to fortify the liver, in order to extend the longevity of each individual's drunkenness. The deployment of scientific drunks has become imperative. Research and development is required. I personally volunteer to test potential new liver technologies.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Nausea you sound like one of the bots you try to hit on. You forgot to add aluminum trusses, towers, and scaffolding and the word "mutual" a multitude of times and how it benefits the research in the beneficial potential of new beneficial liver technologies.Nausea wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:52 amWe need to find a way to fortify the liver, in order to extend the longevity of each individual's drunkenness. Ah. Yes. Pudhammerese: the language of bots.
Increased longevity of the human liver organ is the new and latest design of the Air Jordan micro-bot knitting device. Enjoy the coast of Mar-a Lago (named after the red town in High Plains Drifter) in our shared-time luxury condo as super small robots work with nano-materials to knit fresh liver, kidneys, duodenum, pons deferens, frenulum, in fresh kitchen design out of rich Corinthian Leather® .
The work of the human will be replaced by our best corporate-speak low-caste brown skinned S.A. writers from the land of Oompa Loompa: who created the tuba and also oogabooga. Me love you long time, GiJoe. You A-numba One 'Murrican.

A perfect cold night for whiskey neat. It's the bottom shelf stuff, literally the generic whiskey on the bottom shelf at the drug store, only $12 for a 1.75 liter bottle.
There's a part in The Goldfinch where the two boys come home to find one of the boy's father sitting alone at the kitchen table listening to Russian news on a short wave radio. He has a bottle of vodka and a glass on the table. The old man had once drank himself into the hospital with a crippling case of peripheral neuropathy. He's some sort of mining executive, traveling the world and opening up mines for a Russian company. He beats his kid. But if you're the type of person who drinks hard liquor, alone, no chaser, no mixer, you are all right in my book. He's described as having a face like a rabid fox and an odd odor of hair cream and sweat. Oh yeah, he also once killed one of his employees with a monkey wrench down in the bottom of a mine. It seems as though he's in the impossible spot of drinking to forget and drinking to remember.
Tonight this whiskey is gonna kill the misery of my stupidity from Friday night. I almost never drink to forget (my reason for drinking is that I enjoy the feeling of inebriation, simple as that) but tonight I need to wipe the past clean.
BTW, is "whiskey neat" the correct term? Or should I say "whiskey straight?" Being a solitary means I'm not familiar with drunkard jargon.

Re: Another Solo Mission
I believe neat and straight mean the same thing. I also believe I'm often wrong, but whiskey being my liquor of choice I'm thinking I got it right.
Re: Another Solo Mission
Whiskey was also Lemmy's drink of choice, right? Seems like I remember he used to put down a quart of TJD a day.
Re: Another Solo Mission
Okay - I don't get it. Why was j a c k d a n iels autocorrected to TJD?
