Goddamb. Two short glasses of this and I'm fucked up. Maybe it really is a bargain. I'd need a half bottle of rotgut to get this drunk. But this is a better drunk. I already wrote one poem and have another brewing on the page. And that's what I want to do, fill up a blank page. Too often I just sit here drunk as hell and staring at the walls. I might as well write something while I'm drinking.

Sruck out at the bar, both the main and the dive. Drinking PBR and listening to Frank Sinatra. Approaching middle age, thinking about becoming a hardcore alcoholic as it becomes increasingly less likely to find a woman.

Does it still count as a solo mission if the only other person in the room is asleep and the cats are coming and going but I'm still awake and sipping?

Hardcore alcoholic is a sound plan. I like your general aspirations for life

Does that Sinatra music make you melancholy? If it does, perhaps you could consider dropping it as you drink. Some possible alternatives are reading mystery/thriller/suspense books like Grisham or Clancy. Better yet, some fiction or poetry by Charles Bukowski. When it comes to solo drinking, I'm an evangelist. It really is life's greatest pleasure, even better than having a lover. Now, as far as finding a woman, have you ever considered paying an escort? If you've never done it before, it can sound repulsive. But if loneliness is bothering you, it's something to think about. It could blow up in your face if you get one that is a drug addict or a scammer, but it could also be the best thing that ever happened. She takes care of business and leaves, and then you can drink alone.

Only if you drew a clown face on the sleeping person.

When in doubt, draw one on yourself as well. Blame her.

They dropped the price of Vella one dollar and raised the price of Franzia one dollar. So I picked up the Vella instead. I am loyal to no brand.

We're having a beautiful Santa Ana weather condition in southern California right now. It's warm and dry out there as the desert winds swirl. Of course, with Santa Ana winds come fires out in the SoCal back country, and we got those, too. The media reports it more heavily now than in years past, probably to bring more climate change believers into the fold. (A few weeks ago one of our local stations reported that this was the hottest summer on record, hotter than last year's record breaking summer temps. The story was supported by irrefutable stats and colorful graphs. Since their facts were irrefutable, I feared mentioning that last year I had to run my air conditioner constantly, and this year I only turned it on a total of three times all summer. Who are me and my air conditioner to argue with Climate Change Scientists?)

I got a couple of Facebook friend requests from people I haven't seen in a while. They are former coworkers. I accepted one and declined the other. The guy I declined was a slacker at work, the kind of guy that reports every ache and pain as an injury. He also asked a supervisor if he could go home early one day because he was "dehydrated." They let him go home and required someone else to come in on their day off to cover for him. Why they didn't just tell him to get a drink of water and get back to work, I don't know. Also, he ratted out a forklift driver who had bumped a roller cart with his forklift. It's something that happens often in congested aisles. The forklift driver was fired. Everybody seemed okay with him getting that guy fired, I was not. I think he's a little shit. Oh, one odd thing about me declining his friend request - he's now following me on Facebook. Weird.

Man, this chilled wine is PERFECT in the dry desert air. The neighbors are quiet, the bums are quiet, even the HVAC unit next door is quiet. I'm reading Telex From Cuba, a novel about Americans living in Cuba during the Castro revolution. The author, Rachel Kushner, who actually did spend part of her childhood in pre-Castro Cuba, is bold as fuck. She has the fictional characters cavorting with real historical characters, including Hemingway, at specific times and specific places. A novelist that does that has no fear. She's definitely one of my favorites.

Patchez should be anointed the official guru of Modern Drunkard. This Knob Creek 120 proof bourbon is what I've been searching for my entire life. I may go out and get a university degree so I can get a better job and actually afford to drink it.

NPR recently posted a story about the latest health crisis plaguing America - loneliness. What a crock. Being a hermit is an aspiration, not a disease.

This 120 proof bourbon is the shit. I've never failed to knock out three or four good poems in a single night while I sip this stuff.

Patchez - what would be a good beer to drink with Knob Creek? It seems wrong to drink Hamm's with it, but maybe I'm mistaken about that. Should I get some premium expensive beer to drink with it?
