Bedtime Martini
This is the nitecap and cheers to you all. Taking this last martini to bed and hope for restful sleep until the morn... looks good so far... feeling really mushy right now... just want to stay asleep... cheers!
Found myself in the Matrix and took the red pill. Now I want the blue pill and my bottle and leave me alone.

Re: Martinis and me?
I love martini's but I have a problem with people who order vodka martini's. That's not a martini, it's a glass of vodka in a martini glass. I like mine straight up in a chilled martini glass with just of a few drops of dry vermouth thrown in and regular olives, not these fancy olives stuffed with blue cheese etc. That's disgusting, although olives stuffed with pimento are ok, and hold the olive juice. If I want to drink olive juice I'll order a glass of olive juice. And the gin has be top shelf and strong, like Bombay Sapphire. None of this wimpy 80 proof bar gin for me.

Re: Martinis and me?
Had a martini last week made with Old Tom style gin from some local distillery. Think light on the juniper, slightly sweet and healthily strong. Skipped the vermouth as it wasn't needed. The garnish was kalamata olive with a zest of lemon peel, a strange sounding combination which works amazingly well with the right liquor.

Re: Martinis and me?
I just do not understand people who think a Martini is gin or vodka in a glass and wave the vermouth at it. I mean, come on. If you want a glass of straight gin, go for it. A cup of gin is not a martin. It is a cup of gin. Which is good, I'm sure, but it is not a martini.

Re: Martinis and me?
I do actually like "real" classic gin and vermouth martinis.
I end up going for the vodka martini because I am a vodka drinker - bottom shelf to boot - so it's my chance to appreciate and savor for once a top shelf vodka drink.
And who else loves vodka martini's? James Bond (Casino Royale -1953): “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet [a vermouth-like fortified aromatised wine]. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.”.

Re: Martinis and me?
But that James Bond formula says three parts Gordons and one part vodka, which I assume to mean three parts Gordons Gin, so it's not really a vodka martini, nor is it a true martini. In fact, I've never heard of adding vodka to a gin martini but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

Hendrick's martini with a cucumber slice. Beer chaser of course.Sammy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2019 8:06 amI love martini's but I have a problem with people who order vodka martini's. I was going to mention Hendricks as the exception to the olive garnish rule. Good catch.Lush City wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 10:29 pmHendrick's martini with a cucumber slice. Plus he carries a Walther PPK pop gun and drives an Aston Martin, so there you have it. James Bond is actually a homosexual, not that there's anything wrong with that.oettinger wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 11:23 amJames Bond drinks Vodka-Martinis. Re: Martinis and me?
I love martinis and I swear by them. But all that shaking and prep is a lot of work. I just usually pour them poor man style into a bucket glass with ice and let it set. It's all about getting the ice into the drink. So, I wait a little bit longer swirling the glass in my hand until the ice cubes have melted. Cheers!
