b]every idiot knows the pogues and tom waits are great. but why
overlook the one who was their great inspiration and still rockin', the best white soul man in the world, van morrison? check out 'vanlose
stairway' - "did you ever cry so loud you gave the blues to your neighbor
next door?" even beats sinatra.......
and if you want to be funky but also guilt-trip yourself for drinkin so
much, there is the ever-reliable Mississippi Fred McDowell singin'
"My Jesus is on the mainline, just tell him what you want?"[/b]

hey, i almost forgot. when i was a kid, my dad had this GREAT album
by nat king cole, who was sitting on the front cover holding a drink.
the album was called "The Party's Over" and ever single song was about
gettin' dumped. and it was gorgeous. haven't thought about it in decades
but my eight year old self can still call up "just one of those things" and
"the party's over" is the perfect coda to almost any night of hittin the
hooch. anybody ever hear of that one?JUST ONE OF THOSE FABULOUS
FRIGHTS, A TRIP TO THE MOON ON GOSSAMER WINGS, JUST ONE OF
THOSE THINGS.....

This one always gets me in the mood for drinking. Although I can't figure out why?

One of my favorite Boozing artists is the world famous Mojo Nixon (to quote the Dead Milkmen, "We asked for Nojo Nixon/They said he don't work here/If you don't have Mojo Nixon than your store could use some fixin") Almost all of his songs include drinking but on of my favorites is the aptly named, "I'm Drunk" Here's a snippet:

Im Drunk, but standing up.
Hey barkeep, fill up my cup,
To the rim, with Black Label.
I'll drink the world, under the table!

I saw Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper once. I don't remember the last half of the concert.

With your name I assumed it would have been The Doors.

If your drinking dumped, Joy Division - "Love Will Tear Us Apart" sets the tone and pace nicely.

And what's wrong with Joy Division? When I gave up celebrating birthdays I started commiserating Ian Curtis's death day (it's the same day, although I was born years before Curtis decided on taking the arse's way out).

I love Joy Division. I just remember wallowing in self pity during my early adulthood/post teen years. I was just saying that if your depressed, are going to start drinking, listening to Joy Division is going to fan the flames. Which is what it did for me.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Reverend Horton Heat..he's got classics like "Beer", "It's Martini Time" and many other politically incorrect classics. Psychobilly fun.

Another great song concerning alcohol, at least I think, is Machine Head's "Alcoholocaust" - the best title I've seen, and I've dubbed a few parties with that name.
