Tomorrow's my family's St. Patrick's Day party, and its my favorite Feast of the year. We have relatives coming home from Indiana and Ohio, and last year we ate 3 whole hams. We also have lots of music and Irish dancing.

Actually, I find that it is pretty easy to deflect the suspicion of aspiring members of the anti-saloon league if you don't drink on designated days, such as St Patrick's and New Year's. I know not drinking is an extreme measure, but your coworkers will never suspect you if you're always the only one who shows up bright eyed and bushy tailed on January 1st. How can you fire a man for being a drunk if he was undrunk on St. P atrick's Day, they'll ask themselves.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done'

Amateur night indeed. I got the fuck out of my neighborhood, which has 15 bars now, as soon as I fucking could. Wearing my Fuck you you're Irish shirt I got either shocked looks or high fives. And a hug from a pretty girl. Go figure.
Drink your fucking drink, how about that? Stop the fuckin' presses, isn't it genius??

It is a day we celebrate our heritage, personally I don't do things a whole lot different than any other day. The pub is so bloody busy with eveyone and his brother playing Irish, but it's a laugh regardless.

I went to Bennigans...certainly not the most Irish of places, but best I could do around here. Ate some corn beef, boiled potatos and cabbage, a couple pints of Guiness and a few glasses of Jameson and called it done.

Apparently, Bennigans resorts to plastic cups for beer on St Patricks day, so I demanded an actual glass. Thank god I saw the other poor bastards with plastic before I ordered.

Damn right! If I'm gonna get a Guinness, it better be in at least a pint glass, if not the rounded special Guinness glass. And it better not say "Bass" on it!

Concur. If you have a problem with a specific religion, disagree respectfully or, better yet, just keep your mouth shut...
why is my moral compass always pointed east? that's the direction of the nearest liquor store.

I'll put in an agreement here, too. Or at least do it in artistic terms. I have the quote where Henry Miller refers to his cock and two balls as the Holy Trinity highlighted in my copy of Black Springs, was never Confirmed, and don't celebrate Mass except on Christmas Eve and Mother's Day, and yet I take offense to blanket statements of ignorance towards religion and the religious.

Faith is like alcohol. If you don't imbibe, dont' get in the face of those that do. And vice versa.

I love St Pats day cause its a huge party. If you are really out to just get faced without regard to meeting people why not stay home? Cheaper faster easier. St pattys is one of the few days I can get sooo blasted I can't stand, but still get a girls number as I lay on the sidewalk waiting for a cab.

i think there's a good reason he sounds like an idiot. i'm not one to dive into pile ons or say nasty things to posters for no good reason, but i'm noticing a trend with fighting frank coming off as a dumb ass. maybe he's one of those much-dreaded surly/stupid drunks.

There's nothing wrong with being a little surly. Some people are naturally a little abrasive. I don't need to be drunk to be a sarcastic ass, for instance.

The stupidity thing, though, is unacceptable. Stupid people should stay out of the bar when I am there, or at least at the other end, hopefully standing directly in front of the dart boards.

While I do not support religion of any means, and will openly mock it with my fellow atheists, it's really not good form to mock it directly to someone of faith. They love Jebus nearly as much as I love being fucked-in-half drunk. Combining the two is a recipe for disaster. Religious folks have their vices, and I have mine. As long as we don't try to talk each other out of them, everything will be just fine.

to tell you all the truth im a catholic (not practicing i just got born into it) so im not offended personally but i think those remarks of jesus being a scrawny fag would be bitterly offending to a number of people close to me who are activly worshiping in the faith, i used to be forced to attend mass as a kid and i hated it (most kids do!) but i still had respect for the people who took it seriously, i dont know man maybe he thought he was being all cool and impressive by saying something offensive but then again i may be wrong. to my knowlege theres just a few no go areas in this forum, religion (always causes arguments) and hardline polotics (although a bit of healthy debate is fun so long as its not taken to the ridiculous)
anyway just my opinion!
time will tell on the dumbass theory m.o.L! :)

I love St. Pat's because I dress up in green and get drink specials all night. One MUST love the drink specials!!
