anyway, that's precisely what i was trying to espouse, you gotta play the field, find where you fit in, then go from there. All of this "going straight for the top shelf" just doesn't make sense to me. WT101, Bulleit, EW, Beam Black, none of 'em are top shelf, but as Bourbon's, they are top notch. Granted, I love my Booker's, I love Stagg and so on, but I'm not foolish enough to forget the shit right under those, that can keep pace with, and in some cases come out ahead of 'em.

That's exactly the same approach I took to wine a few years back, and it worked wonders with the snob crowd. I'm currently doing the same thing with bourbon, and I feel that my life is richer for the experience.
In a nutshell: Play that field! If you're experimenting, never buy the same thing twice! You'll find what's best the best way - your way!
