Re: What are you drinking right now?

Ah, Newcastle Brown Ale......a delicious ale and one that costs about half of what the fancy ales cost here in Ireland, if you can find somewhere that sells it. Love the stuff, and at 4.7% it packs an adequate punch but not too much that it can't be drank all day/night.

Re: One drink too many, a thousand never enough

Unfortunately my grandad died before I was old enough to truly appreciate Mr. Behan. I'll ask my dad, though, next time I see the old man. He's a bit of a family historian so he'll surely have a tale or two that my grandad would've recounted to him over several glasses of whiskey in his favourite pu...

Re: One drink too many, a thousand never enough

He was in the same class in school as my grandfather.

I bought a stamp on Wednesday, first time I'd done that in years, and it was a Brendan Behan stamp.

A good enough reason to then have a drink.

Re: "europass?"

Interlaken in Switzerland is the one place that was raved about by my mum (who went inter-railing in the 70s) and my pals (who went inter-railing in the 00s.)

I think weed is legal there and it's just full of people laying around drinking, smoking and having a laugh.

Re: Here's to you Mr O'Toole

The tale of him writing a cheque to buy a particular pub in Ireland that couldn't/wouldn't serve him one night (I think it was well closed and the owner was in bed at the time) as it was closed/after-hours is superb. The landlord still has the cheque, framed on the wall, I'm told.

Re: "Alcohol without the hangover?"

Isn't this called Xanax?? And where the hell are all these people (not specifically you, but so many posters have been saying that they take Xanax/Alprazolam), a very dangerous drug (one that can no longer be prescribed under the NHS). I have to ask, how the hell are you getting your hands on it? G...

Also by Doves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4TSy8A9-Ec&feature=youtube_gdata_player Amazing song that. I introduced my good lady to "There Goes the Fear" on Friday night while we were both under the influence of ecstacy. It pretty much blew her mind. I'm currently listening to tracks from Flaming...

Re: The Irish

careful now, I'm half Dublin, half Belfast I was (half) joking. Besides, I'm half Dublin and half Limerick and I think they're a different breed down there . Or is it up there. I'm not sure which. (I feel like I'm from about four different places. And now I have a half-Polish son to add to the conf...

Re: The Irish

Nah, I haven't watched it. I read a short review in the Irish Times and it didn't sound particularly good. Besides, I think the Irish in it are of the northern variety and they're a different breed up there altogether. I might give it a look though, if you say it has a bit more substance to it than ...

Re: The Irish

I don't really understand the Irish Nationalism thing and drinking.....? Anyway, I know most other nations drink a similar amount to us. We just seem to be more famous for it somehow. We also have this weird thing about it where we feel guilty about it sometimes but then celebrate the Irish pub as b...

Re: Guinness In Ireland...

I couldn't really give a hoot about Arthur Guinness or where they brew the stuff so long as I have a creamy pint in my hand that keeps its head consistently till the end of the pint glass. The proof of the pudding is that there isn't actually a single male, who is Irish, of my acquaintance that I li...

Re: The Daily Nut (your way of making a living)

I work for The Man. Seeing as The Man takes (in my view) an inordinate amount of my wages away in tax, I see nothing morally wrong with getting cock-eyed on the clock and do so pretty much every day. Once you figure out how to do it right, work just isn't so bad anymore. Not that I enjoy it, or anyt...
