If you go to the advanced search and type "Bender" into keyword and then select "search titles only," this thread does not appear in the search results. How odd.

Here's a snippet from a letter that Charles Bukowski wrote to his publisher John Martin in January of 1973: "My master plan is to live to be 80 but that last drunk damn near did me in. I can handle a one night drunk but if I hang 2 or 3 of them together my system just can't take it. I'm 52."

He'd also written a letter a week earlier to AD Winans saying that he'd just come off of a four day drunk that damn near did him in saying "still shaky...but alive." obviously talking about the same bender.

He was 52 then, I'm 57 now, and I'm starting to notice the same thing, especially if I'm downing the whiskey. I could probably do an endless bender on wine only, but the problem is you can not get drunk on wine alone after too many days. You've got to reach for the whiskey - and that's when the bender blahs hit you full force.

Reading these collections of decades-old letters is a real lift, even if all they do is show you someone else went through the same shit back then that you are going through now. If you see someone else got through all the shit, it lets you know that you can, too.

He isn't wrong, multiday hangovers happen for me if I drink heavily for more than 3 days in a row.
