Well - you're lucky dude. I'm married to a teetotaller and I pretend to be one for her.

Not to be too negative, but the truth will eventually come out, and either you'll really be a teetotaller, she'll accept you as a drunkard, or you won't be married.

#2 is the least likely outcome. Relationships need communication and honesty.

Which is why it's best to find a drinking soulmate. You want honesty? When she's through a bottle of Merlot, and you're about four doubles into the night, there's not a bit of dishonesty. In Vino Veritas.

It's a tough issue. I sold myself as an anti-alcohol homebody because that's what I thought she wanted. I really wanted to have her so much I was willing to pretend.

Here I am nearly 10 years later and I have to lead a "double life" - i.e., drinking when she's not in town.

Concur.
I did the same thing.

Can't imagine having to hide drinking from a partner. It's gonna bite you in the ass one day.

Why the hell would you want to marry someone like that? I can't even hide my drinking from my bosses, parents, professors, and random strangers, much less a spouse.

You've all made this drinking alone stuff sound so devil-may-care and romantic, I'll have to try it.

That's cool. I'm afraid of what people would think if they found out.
