Anyone else here into using smokeless tobacco while drinking? While I am found of loose leaf chew, I can't stomach the spit - so, generally, whenever I try to combine to the two (especially drinking with a chaw in my cheek) I vomit, wasting both good tobacco and good booze. The same goes for dip.
However, I am _very_ fond of dry snuff when drinking. There's nothing like trying to find the right snuff for the current drink, nor the absolute pleasure of an immediate nicotine buzz... hell, once in a while, if I'm already good and drunk, if I take a snort of a snuff with a punch it'll make my face go numb. Then there's the amazing scent....and the joy of getting my tobacco in a bar despite a damn smoking ban.
Eh, anyways, anyone else here a fan of this stuff while drinking? If I'm attempting dip while drinking, I like to go for Redman Straight Longcut. If I'm snuffing, though, as said above, it's really dependent on the drink... but overall I tend to go for a menthol flavor from a good English company.

I love snuff. But I haven't found a good retailer. It's not something I can buy at the corner store. I may need to order some good stuff from overseas soon. I'm jonesing after this post. *sniiifff*

I've never tried snuff....couldn't stand dipping, but I'd like too. I understand that there are some "boutique" sort of snuffs out there that are supposed to be great. Seems like it would be great way to relax, along with a quick way pick you up when you can't smoke or drink.

Been in the military along time..there is a lot of chewers and snuffers I guess you would call them..but as the restrictions get worse and worse day by day..I suppose It's like owning muscle cars during a gas crisis like I also do...It's really wearing me down.

Re: Smokeless Tobacco & Booze
Copenhagen Pouches. I smoked for about 15 years, and decided to quit the Camels. I started with Copenhagen Long Cut, but moved to the pouches, because they're easier to use one-handed, I don't get the inside of my lip all jacked up, and I spit a lot less with them. Oh, and don't get tobacco stuck in my teeth.
Combining smokeless and booze is pretty easy, once you learn how. It's basically spit and sip. Or, with my pouches, just sip. That's the other thing I like about 'em- if I'm in a situation where I can't spit, as long as I have some water to wash it down... it's all good.

I don't always use smokeless tobacco, but when I do, I prefer pouched snuff.
Pouched snuff is superior because its easy to use and doesn't make a big mess. That one time I used unpouched snuff I had to wipe the interior of my upper lip and also my teeth because it had started leaking, not very nice.

The Count's on the money(sorry, bad pun) about the pouch stuff. I used to chew Red Man leaf-cut but I could rarely handle the loose fine-cut.Count Silvio wrote:I don't always use smokeless tobacco, but when I do, I prefer pouched snuff.

Chewing is an outdoor activity (cowboys, construction workers, the odd baseball player, etc). You can spit all you want (and puke, too, if you must)-- no harm, no foul.

Yup. Ever since Skoal became the Cadillac of dip (with the price to match), I've been dipping Grizzly. I can do shots, drink beer and have a dip all at the same time.
why is my moral compass always pointed east? that's the direction of the nearest liquor store.

I used to dip a little during my redneck upbringing in Southeast Texas, I liked Skoal and Red Man and the occasional bit of snuff.
I prefer Mary Jane's fat ass too, and now I'm a typical Euro smoker, mixing hash and Drum shag tobacco on an hourly basis

I chewed for over 15 years. Started when I was 12. everyday. Thankfully I'm been free of that stuff for 10 years or so. But I actually used to chew at my desk job just fine. I do think you are right for alot of people, but for those of us with Scottish stomachs, then chewing and swallowing works. If I think about it now I feel like yaking.
I was a Kodiak guy with an occasional foray into Skoal and Copenhagen.
To answer to comment about the "rich people and snuf" I think what he's thinking of is the snuff that you would "sniff"...tried that once and felt like somebody shoved a fucking ice pick in to my nose.
Not to be confused with putting a satisfying pinch between your cheek and gum. :)
And if you are a full time chewer you can drink anything and not have a problem...

Yeah everyone is talking about different things. Snuff is not dip, you snort a pinch of extremely fine tobacco powder(often flavoured). Some people also mentioned dip in a bag, that's snus which I've heard about but can't say I've ever tried.Sleestack wrote: To answer to comment about the "rich people and snuf" I think what he's thinking of is the snuff that you would "sniff"...tried that once and felt like somebody shoved a fucking ice pick in to my nose.
Also I think it's true snuff used to be common among the wealthy. If you googled 'snuff box' you could probably find some ridiculous antiques.

Re: Smokeless Tobacco & Booze
I highly recommend “Mars Cigars” if you are in America; they have _excellent_ service and the proprietor is a true tobacco fan. I ordered just $30 worth, and I got _two_ free samples of snuff, which, together, amounted to 1/8th of an ounce of snuff (which, generally, would run you at least $6!)…I love snuff. But I haven't found a good retailer. It's not something I can buy at the corner store. I may need to order some good stuff from overseas soon. I'm jonesing after this post. *sniiifff*
Snuff is multiple things, actually; the important difference is DRY and MOIST snuff. Moist snuff is used orally; it contains your typical brands like Copenhagen, Grizzly, etc. Moist snuff is finer grind than it’s long or fine cut brothers, usually. I don’t believe Skoal has a snuff, probably because their users are pansies.Yeah everyone is talking about different things. Dry snuff is generally done in the nose, notably brands being Wilson & Sharrows, Freiburg & Treyer, etc… however, the longest running copyright (the sixth one registered, if I remember correctly) in America is a brand by the name of “W.E. Garret & Sons”, which is generally done orally. Apparently, the popular way of doing it is to take a small segment of a hickory branch, strip it of bark, wet it, dip the stick in das container, and then place it between the gums and cheek. I’ve done this brand mainly nasally, and it gives a buzz that’s…extreme. Imagine smoking an unfiltered Lucky Strike, after two days of no nicotine, while being thoroughly sloshed. It’s the most extreme nicotine buzz I’ve ever got in my life.
Also, they have “dip” in a pouch, which is not snus (the difference, is, apparently, in the curing process) – to appreciate the difference, try a Grizzly Pouch and a Camel snus pouch.
Nasal snuff has a varying impact; it depends on the grind (how fine it is) and what type of tobacco it uses. Generally, though, you can get a nice 10-15 minute buzz out of it, with the buzz decrease greatly as time goes on. However, after you blow it out, you get a second buzz and a second time for the scent. In my opinion, if a snuff has a good blow buzz and scent, it’s a good snuff. Which is why I avoid those bastards who make the “Chief Red Bull” snuff….hate to sound dumb, but snuff over here is what the upper classes used to do in the 19th century. tried some many years ago as a kid but have no memories. what is the buzz? how long?
But, yeah, it used to be much more popular in the 19th century. However, with recent research showing that snuff is rather bereft of harmful medical effects (aside from those that caffeine gives you), it’s regaining popularity as a method of smoking cessation and a method of enjoying tobacco in smoke free environs.

No seriously, thanks for the info. I think I would still chew if I hadn't had a luimp in the throat. It turned out to be nothing but by then I had quit. and I figure if I'm ever going to quit anything, that I had better make it chew because it sure as HELL aint going to be Booze (<-note: capitalized) :)

Re: Smokeless Tobacco & Booze
I would like to attest to the "replacement" qualities. If you can't drink(like if you drive for work), smokeless tobacco gives a buzz that takes the monkey off your back for the time being. the first few times I did it I felt a very similar "drunk" feeling.
however, then, as soon as I start drinking I usually loose the appetite for a nicotine buzz. not always though; the 2 towgether can be wonderous.
