So you've got £10

Post by Palinka (RIP) »

In response to the US thread querying what you'd do to get good and loaded on $20, I put the same question to UK posters but you only have a tenner!

I would hit Sainsbury for their £5.99 35cl bottle of, own brand, vodka and a bottle of £3.99 75cl red wine. Then settle down for an evening of Brutal Hammers (and the certain knowledge that my tomorrow self will hate me).

Well, there's always Lidl's and their 40% ABV 70cl bottle of Kalinka vodka...

But it's different for you Finns with your crazy moon prices for booze.

I'd probably get a couple of bottles of own brand sherry. But Sainsbury's have 1L of port for £7 at the minute, so that and 4 cans of tennent's finest from morrisons at £3

a litre of port is only 50p more than a tenglass. Marvelous. Hadn't seen the litres in stock for a long time

I could always spend £10 on a homebrew kit and get 40 pints of beer or six bottles of wine from a shop, or go properly alone and get 10 or 15 bottles of wine/cider from trees and vines

Against the rules, old chap. The tenner is to be spent on an immediate endrunkening.

There was a time when there was definite space for Carlsberg Special Brew (Or "Commemoration Lager" if you prefer) on this budget, alas, no more. Last I looked it was £2 a can, and they keep selling it in smaller cans too. I miss it, it was better than the reputation suggested, much like the drunkard community

I used to be quite fond of Tennant's Super when I was a lad. Sadly, the old 8-9% lagers have been superceded by the vileness of such horrors as White Lightening and Lambrusco.

Interestingly enough Carlsberg made Special Brew, initially, as a gift for Winston Churchill after he was heard to comment (at a reception at the Danish Embassy) that lager had no taste and that it was impossible to get drunk upon (I guess they took his critique to heart).

I know, and according to their website, they made it with cognac flavours to mimic his favourite tipple

I like the fact that they don't make click to "swear that you are of legal drinking age" to get into their website, which always struck me as being a bit pointless...
